Pop Tab Pulley Build

The pulley is water jet cut for aluminum. The insert is 3-D printed. I based it off of a soda pop tab. I’m only making 22 right now. Not sure if I will make any more.

Reminds me of the pulleys used in theatrical rigging to quietly fly in fresh scenery flats during set changes. On the whole, pretty useful — as long as you remember not use them to lift live weight.

I love how you're always working on something. You've done so much to help bring knowledge of rope and pulleys back to everyday thinking!

@First_Class_Amateur Off topic. You have left your mark on YouTube knot tying videos forever. I never saw anyone even mention the Blackwall before you implemented it on the trucker's hitch. Now, I see it everywhere.

This seems like it would be helpful hanging stuff in the garage, like bicycles

Wow, a remake of the 400 year old Snatch block.

Request: Best knot to use with general purpose steel wire when making a repair. For instance holding up a car exhaust when the hanger broke.

ABOK #3210: A single "purchase" (ideal force multiplication x2)
A purchase being any tackle with a matching number of shivs used in both block with the fall from the upper (static) block. This always produces an even force multiplier.

For a given number of shivs you can get 1x more by pulling in the same direction as you're moving the load (ABOK #3211: a gun tackle, 3x multiplier)
Ashley gives a number of other combinations from p526 onward.

It would be interesting to see if your example could be developed into a modular system for multi-shiv blocks.

Id love to see these in a convienient keychain size made of 3 mm stainless, but have the inner part of the cutout double as a bottle opener.

Mechanical advantage should be 50% in your favor

That's really sweet. I don't know the mechanical advantage of 2 pulleys like that, but it's great that the prototype held up! 4:1? 3:1? LOL

I have been looking for a light weight snatch block system to use 550 cord and smaller for backpack hunting. The only con to your design is that the end of your line has to be threaded through the pulley. Not fun if you have a long rope. A snatch block type design that allows the side supports to separate to pass the middle of your line around the pulley would be ideal. The nautical world has stuff that is close but not quite what I described. Some thing like this would be awesome! Love the channel!

Hi Brent I do have a question for a knot. In southern Germany (Bavaria) we do have the may pole tradition ("Maibaum"). While setting up, we secure it with two ropes.
Two years ago we almost didn't retrieve the knot once the tree was settled in its final location. So last year we used a butterfly knot in the middle of the rope so that we have a retrieving end.
What else could we use to secure the tree while setting it up?
Also it would be interesting what to do with the ends on the ground. Last time they were just held by two guys but there's probably something smarter then just holding the line ends 😅
Thanks in advance and keep on making those great videos - I really did learn a lot from you! ❤

I’ve never been able to find a kydex holster for my ruger security-6. I’m never committed to ccw but I think if I could find the right holster I’d carry.

That is quite a tinkering setup seemingly appearing out of nothing.

mechanical advantage is 4:1 in your favor/you are using 25% the power but you are working 4x the original distance.

I love your carabineers, but TBH I have learned enough using pulleys to know that I never want to buy a pulley that doesn't split so I can put rope in it without having to thread it from the end. I'm only willing to end thread for permanent installations.

Cool concept! Question: what's that bucket-full-of-sand stuff that appears around 0:36?

When will the microfin carabiners and the larger whole setup be available?

Very cool..thx for shareing.
Is that a DIY water jet doing the cutting or can it be purchased from somewhere?
