The accident at Chernobyl was the worst nuclear disaster in human history, (if you only count unintentional nuclear disasters). The explosion has had lasting effects to this day, and the near area of the city Pripyat is still considered hazardous to visit.

The Chernobyl disaster was a nuclear accident that occurred on 26 April 1986, reactor #4 overheated and exploded near the city of Pripyat in the north of the Ukrainian SSR in the Soviet Union. The explosion released a radioactive cloud that ended up killing three people immediately and several thousand directly from radiation. We'll never really know how high the human toll was because the Soviets weren't exactly forthcoming with numbers, but many scientists believe at least 100,000 deaths can be traced directly back to the 1986 meltdown. The exact number is still a bit of a debate. It also caused untold troubles for much of Europe. The meltdown created a fear of nuclear power that still exists today, but many of the more interesting and integral facts have not been widely publicized.

There are a few things you can find there that might really surprise you, and in today’s video, we will look at The Top Creepiest Things Found At Pripyat And Chernobyl - Part 8

I'm confused. In regards to the hotel he said nobody wants to stay there anymore due to the hostile environment. As if the hotel is open for business but they just can't get anyone to come stay

What about the firefighters helmet that was stolen? Someone apparently wanted that.

The morgue next to the hospital used to be the most contaminated place on Earth. It was a little brick building and they had painted a big skull and crossbones on the side. They used specialized equipment to clean it up and demolish it.

So the ussr had nuclear energy and knowledge of how radiation not something to be messed around with for around 3 decades by the time of chernobyl and medical knowledge was higher than ever before so why on earth did they handle the irradiated clothes with there bare hands

Did the firefighters not realized they were putting out a fire at a nuclear plant? Did they not understand that a fire and what looked like an explosion at a nuclear plant could mean exposure to radiation? I know it was 86 and info wasn’t as easy to look up as it is now and it was the Soviet Union so it’s a layer of lies or covering up I’m just wondering where they just naive to what was going on at this plant and thought this was a regular fire?
