Bound Buttonholes to avoid zigzag stitches (PART 2)🪡🧵 #sewinghacks #sewingtips #notatutorial

Oh the lengths you'll go to in order to avoid whipping out the buttonhole attachment for your vintage sewing machine!! Also, yes, I'm fully aware that one generally uses interfacing for bound buttonholes (this is NOT my first rodeo, folks), hence one of the major reasons for doing the little sampler, but I didn't have any on hand, and I thought it would affect the drape of the fabric in a way that I didn't want, so when it looked great without the interfacing... I just skipped it. Rules are meant to be broken, folks!

If you're into sewing projects that aren't quite tutorials, but that and entertaining and where you can still pick up some useful sewing tips and tricks, then consider heading over to my channel for more fun sewing videos and projects!

As a tailor of 30yrs and a historical clothing curator asst seamstress for 10yrs, I saw some beautiful bound, embroider and different shaped buttonholes. They make awesome accents on otherwise simple or dull piece of clothing.

I LOVE this! The clapper: you don't have to push it down. It just absorbs the moisture.

I will NEVER be able to think of bound buttonholes the same way.

I just found a clapper at a thrift store and snapped it up for super cheap. It may be unnecessary, but using one does help! Love these little button holes. Perhaps a flower shaped button would complete the look nicely.

I literally never heard of this technique before and I’ve always avoided designs with buttons because how difficult it is for me to do them, but this looks a lot more doable for me!

I think some flower shaped buttons would look really pretty with the shirt!

Honestly, I'd rather hand sew buttonhole than use the button hole attachment. I find all kinds of creative ways to avoid buttonholes.

I never heard of bound button holes but they look kinda cool. Not sure what I would use them on.

Aside from their new nickname ...
these buttonholes look fabulous!
So fun to see some 'old' techniques in current day. Can't wait to see the buttons you choose.♡

If you want anything to look professional, having that wood/pressure after ironing creates those beautiful crisp lines. That's a cornerstone of tailoring!

Also soooo bold to do the bound buttonholes before you figured out buttons. I like your style 😂

I think they remind me of Chinese button holes. I think they are fabulous.-

I would get buttons that can be covered and cover them with the flowered fabric! I think it would look really cute with the flowered fabric peeking out of those wonderful button holes!

Do love this method, far better than having the binding folded when sewing them in place.

Now I'm stuck on the idea of a sharp anus and I can't stop twitching in my seat 😂

The Shannon's commentary puts it into the new perspective, doesn't it? 😂
