Not only is he a good teacher, he lets us know he is not perfect. The way to get better is to try different things and practice, practice, practice. Thanks for being real.

Thank you for the pin stopper tip!
The amount of times I’ve cut clean through the bottom of my button holes makes me hang my head in shame!

Oh that was absolutely exactly what I needed! Because I don’t have a very new machine and I needed to make a blouse with buttons!

bless you for this! I didn't want to get a presser foot attachment for buttons and I had a hunch I could get around by doing something like this but this really helped nail down the details and avoid unnecessary mistakes!!!💛💛 quick and to the point, love it!!!

Thanks for this. Great tip with the needle. Last weekend I was opening a button hole, and my new seam ripper ripped another two inches passed it 😬. I made a patch that looks fine; it’s for an apron, so no big deal.

I’ve got a button down I sewed a few months ago I’ve been reticent to sew the buttons onto because of the button holes. I’m going to try this method, it seems straightforward enough.

I really appreciate your videos! When I make buttonholes I like to use “Frey Check” liquid on the buttonhole before I cut it open… this reduces the amount of wild threads. I also like using a small wood block and a chisel to cut the buttonholes… they are very sharp and very precise.

I still prefer to sew mine by hand. A little more work, but I prefer the results. Try the different ways and do what works best for you 😊

Another insightful video. Great job. Always nice to know how to make a buttonhole manually. Also, when I cut the buttonhole open, I squirt a few drops of liquid 'Fray check' on it to prevent unraveling of the cut stitches.

That was a useful feature! I have a Singer, two years old, and it manages all different stiches but buttonholes. It is supposed to automatically make wide zigzag, sewing backwards in thin zigzag, make wide zigzag, and after that go to the startingpoint in strait line and after that thin zigzag backwards over the strait stitches. It doesn't do the last thin zigzag at the end, it stops after the straight stitches and stands on the spot sewing until I have a little "bun" underneath. I wish I had this function instead. It is controllable....

But won't the fabric fray after cutting it? I find the loose threads drive me crazy, depending on the fabric, which is why I cut then sew
