This was so useful. I usually use action in between my dialogue but another writing tip video I watched recently said to use I say at least 80% of the time. So I tried it out where I could in my dialogue but I didnt like it as much. I now think what they were getting at was not to use adverbs when I say works fine.

I am really new to writing, so I had no Idea what to say if not he/she said. lol Thanks for the info I'm about to start really planning out my story and I'm glad I got this tid bit of info. After your out of school for a few years the rules just grow legs, I swear.

The dialogue in my current manuscript is slave dialogue. So not just period dialogue but period dialogue from a very specific subculture of people 🤦🏾‍♀️ its daunting to say the least. I dont want them to sound stupid or like characatures, but I also don't want it to be totally unrealistic. I want their intelligence to shine, but I dont want the dialogue to be so far from reality that it yanks the reader out of the world I'm building.
