Mary: Alone in the Great Unknown | Dr. Safiyyah Ally

Mary, or Maryam as she’s called in the Quran, was a devout servant of God. She spent days and nights worshipping God. The Quran praises her highly. She was shocked when she was told she would have a child, and she retreated from society. She was alone in childbirth. But as Dr. Safiyyah Ally explains, God was always with her. She cried out to God and God reassured her and provided for her and showed her the way forward.

This series get better and better. Mary/Mariam is the only woman mentioned by name, there are other women who are mentioned but not named... That's a very small issue though. I love the way Dr. Saffiyah Ally ties the struggles of quranic figures to the concerns and struggles of everyday people. It's a device used in the Quran as well but often forgotten in the modern world.

Did Mary have a husband named joseph in history? In bible it shows that but in Quran no indications. What do you guys think?

You are correct, Mary dedicated her life to worshiping her Creator. She spent a monastic life but Allah had other plans for her!
We do not get the finer details in the Quran that Allah told her that this was not to be her life for much longer. She was to leave this lifestyle, get married, for she will have a son that Allah has chosen to be a Messenger.
There is no such thing as a miraculous birth i.e a birth without the union of a male and a female. Jesus pbuh had a human father, Joseph.
If It was a miraculous conception then why would Allah swt put Mary through 9 months of pregnancy? Why would she be in pain, to the point that she would wish she had died!

Now for all those, reading this AND i do hope the sister and her father, Dr Ally is also reading this, ponder these verses from the Quran:

36:36
Allah has created all things in pairs, things you can see, things you cannot see AND OF YOUR OWNSELVES.

Was not Mary a human being a lady?
NOW, A MOST PROFOUND VERSE FROM THE QURAN:
6:101
THE ORIGINATOR OF THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH. HOW CAN HE HAVE A SON WHEN HE HAS NO CONSORT/ PARTNER/ Mrs God???

The verse is addressing those who believe that God has taken a son ( i.e Jesus). But the verse is clearly stating that not even Allah breaks His Own Laws, once they have been made. God too, needs a partner to have a child.

So how the heck can Mary have a child without a husband??
Muslims need to stop being duped by erroneous English translations of the Quran which make it appear that the miracle was that she gave birth by kun fe akun only!! This is not the Law of Allah.
The miracle was, that she left the life of the monastery, got married, conceived naturally in thr normal gestation time period and gave birth to a "Mighty Messenger." ( as stated in the Quran).

Is Maryam Eve? Maby joseph was a invention. Like he pretended to marry Maryam to save her from stoning. I mean the date tree symbolic of the forbidden fruit? Only woman mentioned by name but the first woman wasn't named apparently just Adams spouse.

I think you are misleading the public by this talk. You are not at all honest. The fact is that the Miriam of Quran is an entirely different woman as opposed to the Mary of the New Testament of the Christians. Miriam in the quran is mentioned as the sister of Harun who lived some 2000 years before the birth of Jesus Christ. Now this Harun is the brother of Moosa nabi or Moses, the Jew, of the old testament ! Also Miriam is the daughter of Imran which is not the case for Mary of the Bible. Miriam gave birth to Issa nabi where as Mary of the bible gave birth to Jesus. Jesus was born in a cow shed where as Issa nabi was born under a palm tree. Mary was Jesus's surrogate mother and not his actual mother as God Jesus cannot have human parents. Jesus, the God incarnated in Mary's womb as a human being by God's power. Jesus the God came to this earth leaving aside all his Godly powers etc in heaven. Jesus had a human step-father by name Joseph at the time of his birth where as Issa did not have a father and so the local people called him a prostitute's son as per Islamic books. But since Jesus had a human step-father at the time of his birth, this stigma of unknown father was not there. Your Issa nabi came with a book called Injil as an infant where as our Jesus did not come with any such book nor did he dictate any or wrote any book.Again Jesus, the son of Mary was crucified, died buried in a tomb and was risen to life on the third day and finally ascended to heaven. Issa nabi, the son of Miriam of the Quran was never crucified. Jesus is God incarnate, the third person of the Triune God who is worshipped from the beginning in the heaven along with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Your Miriam bibi of the quran will be married to your Mohamed nabi when the world ends. So, please with a humble request, I beg you not to tell the public that your Issa nabi born of Miriam is the same as the Jesus Christ born of Mary. You are insulting we christians. Otherwise we will have to request the govt. to ban your quran and the hadees !

The Quran makes many mistakes about Mary, mother of Jesus. It conflates her with Miriam, sister of Moses and Aaron, even though they lived more than 1000 years apart. Moreover, it borrows material from the fictional protoevangelium of James, which asserts that Mary grew up secluded in the Jewish Temple. Nobody with any knowledge of the Jewish religion would make that assertion. If you want to learn accurately about Mary, read the Gospel according to Matthew or Luke.
