I talk to everyone while I'm public, it's a nice way to meet and interact with other people. I also wave hello to everyone driving by in my neighborhood while I'm walking my dog.

Hint to avoid asking about shoes ---- check the doormat to see if there are more shoes than occupants. IF so, ditch the shoes.

As an American, everything said in this video is pretty much correct, so good job to them 👍. Personally, I don't usually make small talk myself, but I don't mind at all if someone starts some small talk with me and I usually enjoy the conversation.

I am 66, and have never ridden in a taxi or uber here in the U.S. I have ridden in two in Spain and one in Italy a very long time ago. One thing they neglected to point out, is that most everyone I know consider it very rude to be habitually late. It implies that person thinks their time is more important than anyone else's.

I had an board member of $120 billion company talk with some of us lowly employees. He said "no, please just call me Tom". He really meant it and we did. This guy has made decisions over the years on over a trillion dollars and he is still humble.

Basically, do anything you want. We’re very forgiving people.
P.S. bring that tank top.

If you are starting a new job, you usually start off by addressing your boss as Mr./Miss/Mrs. Smith. But if your office environment is more casual, the boss might say, "Just call me John/Jane." Same with meeting a significant other's parents etc., for the first time. In most of the country, people might be more formal, until they're told otherwise.

Great video Courtney. There is so much I can comment on in this video but my biggest thing concerns tipping. I usually always pay for my food with my debit card and tip in cash because this prevents whoever is receiving the tip to be over taxed and also gives them the option to claim it. What people don't realize is that they are not taxed on each tip but are taxed on the total of their sales for that day. Also the restaurant that I eat at provide all the condiments in a caddy on the table and it includes salt, pepper, ketchup, hot sauce, Tabasco sauce, and sugar etc. I just felt these were the most important issues for me. One other thing that is important to me is to speak to every one I see because a simple hello can change a persons whole attitude because you never know what is going on with that person.

The throwing your trash away in a bin at a restaurant depends on the restaurant. If there are obvious and open bins around then you can reasonably expect you are to police up your own garbage where as if there are no bins out in the open then you can reasonably assume the staff will take care of it. You can also tell by the place setting, if it's plates and metal cutlery the staff generally takes care of it whereas if it's paper plates and plastic ware, you can assume you are probably supposed to take care of it.

I think that a first name basis is dependent on the region. In the South it is generally a rule that elder women are not called by their first name unless prefaced with Miss or Ms and in some cases even women of your own age group depending on the setting.

I think that the Irish in me personally (US Born and Veteran) is in my blood to always smile and be personable to strangers. Another trait that I have is to always offer help and hold the door for anyone. I firmly believe that when someone is content and comfortable with themselves, The kinder a person tends to be. I can't remember at any point of my life that kindness and my smile didn't diffuse anything

In college I cleaned hotels during my summer breaks. So when I became an adult and was expected to tip housekeeping staff I came up with a plan. Where would a methodical, hard-working hotel room cleaner look (or not)? I now place small, rolled up dollar bills (up to $25 per room) in out of the way places the poor cleaner would never look or access. It's a bit of a treasure hunt that rewards the diligent cleaner.

On #1 alot of restaurants in the US have salt & pepper on the tables already and if you ordered a burger or something with fries the server will generally offer you ketchup in my experience that is. On tipping I normally do the 15% unless the service was extraordinary then I will tip more.

I didn't know La Croix had made it to New Zealand LOL I can't believe how popular it has become. I am from Wisconsin and we used to go to La Crosse and tube down the St. Croix river every summer. There's where the name and the water come from.

As an Italian American, I do hug and [cheek] kiss someone I like and have met before. There's a lot of hugging in my family. Because I worked for a huge, global consumer products company in Cincinnati (you can guess who, now), I fit right in with my European colleagues regarding hugs and kisses. That tradition became a company norm. When we acquired a large, US-based company, they were surprised at how warmly we greeted each other.

I think that most restaurants in the US are conscious of individual's taste preference, so as a result the food doesn't have much seasoning and they leave it to the patron to season their own food. Salt and pepper shakers are usually at the table and most often a bottle of ketchup is too.

Condiments are quite normal in America, except for the higher end steak houses. Usually they frown on a condiment for their steak. I love getting animated or laughing loudly. The only time I've ever sat in the front of the cab, was when I was with others and carrying packages. My house is shoes off. If I get really lousy service in a restaurant, I leave the smallest tip.

I'm an American, one time when I was a kid I was holding the door open for people going in & out of a restaurant while waiting to be seated & someone tipped me.
