Why Can't Sweden Sell Its Gripen Fighter Jets? #shorts

Sweden's Gripen fighter jet has not been able to make a significant impact in the global arms market. The aircraft is marketed as a low-cost alternative to other fighter jets, but the cost is still relatively high.

Countries that are looking for a high-end fighter jet will likely choose a more advanced option. Additionally, political considerations and the lack of international partnerships have made it difficult for Sweden to sell the Gripen to foreign countries. If Sweden wants to increase the global market share of the Gripen, it will need to address these issues.

They do not only buy a fighter jet but also good relations with the country they buy from. Some buys from US other from Russia but very few buys from small countries that can not help them if there would be a conflict.

Buying this kind of aircraft is 95% politics, thats why Sweden dont sell them even it would suit the buyer better to by Gripen instead of F-16 for example

There are so many wrongs in this video. The author needs to study the case more.

Where did you get that info. Gripens are used in Sweden, Brazil, South Africa and Hungary. I say they’re doing fine.

Grippen is one of the lead competitor for the Philippine Air force MRF program against F-16, our air force really want to get at least one squadron of f-16 but because of the higher price they decide to choose Grippen.

the difficulty selling: Washington not happy about it

One main reason: US refuses to sell the engine without political approval.

And the countries to which the US approves can get the F-16, so why bother.

This sad.Competition can be ugly. This would be ideal for those countries with lower budgets.

Few people outside of Sweden really understand the use of the plane. It's perfect for Ukraine.

Also not to forget, Sweden always puts restrictions and embargoes, so, other countries do not want the seller to interfere with domestic policies etc.

The reason? It's called USA. The influence USA have over everyone is immense. They can just say "Oh then you don't get this and that" and presto F-16 or F-35 "wins".
The Gripen E is equivalent to F-35 in everything except stealth. But even in that it's just behind it in RCS (radar cross section). Meaning very stealthy besides no physical features.
The EW Suite and network linked system is top notch.
The Gripen E is definitely above Typhoon. The Oldest Gripen A defeated the Typhoon back at Red flag Alaska in 2006. The Gripen E is basically completely new. The Typhoon is not.
It wouldn't stand a chance.

My homeland wanted Gripens. Made a preliminary contract, even some factories had to be established for repairs and maintenance. We could get the Gripens right away. Then US stomped their foot, our politicians did about-turn, negated the deal and pre-paid for F-16s, twice the price, and wait for it: the plant that has to produce them has not been built yet!

I don’t understand why other countries wouldn’t want the Gripen, that’s a really nice fighter jet. It may not be in the same class as the F-35 but it will definitely make any adversaries think twice before encroaching into their airspace

The US would dislike it as it’s simple and inexpensive

International weapon systems are not traded on an open free market. It’s far from ”which product is strictly the best”.

It’s a chain of ”weapons manufacturer/their government/buyer government/ buyer government’s other trade supplier”. It might be steel, cotton, baby shoes etc.
The ”other trade supplier” expects a counter deal, sometimes costing the seller’s government more than the arms deal is worth in the first place.

And to complicate: NATO membership or seeking it, will favor sellers from NATO countries.

Its more about american and russian influences on theyre customers than these reasons actually .

I think it is a fundamentally flawed perception that gripen wouldbe "third tier", inferior to typhoon.
From the technical capabilities, the gripen can carry a smaller bomb load, BUT:
It flies equally fast, a bit more range, half the maintenance required, very easy on runway-requirements.
For the customer this means: for the invest and operational cost of 50 typhoon, you can easily buy and maintain 100 gripen - and deliver much more punch! Gripen was, by the way, the first aircraft with the integration to use the world-class meteor aa-missiles
