This is the first in our Guide to Fabric series where we teach you how to understand fabric and how to describe fabric. People often wish they could just ask "what is my fabric?" and so we want to help you with understanding different fabrics in our 6-part fabrics guide. If you want to learn about fabrics and textiles, especially the types of fabrics for clothing, this video is a good place to start!

We'll answer common questions like:
- What do all these fabric terms actually mean?
- What is fabric weight?
- What is fabric grain?
- What is bias cut?
- What is fabric drape?
- What are the best kinds of fabric for sewing?

When making clothes understanding fabrics and how to use them is a really important part of getting the look you want.

Everything we say in this series of videos is based on our own research and is aimed at the home dressmaker who wants to know more about fabric. We have not been able to cover all fabrics, weaves and fibres in these videos but we hope that what we have covered is of some help.
