This is disappointing. I just bought the 2017 version without pencil because there was no option. I hope Apple is fair and give an option for the 2017 option

I got this as a gift recently and had no idea that it was the newest version. I thought that most of the changes were software-based. I am mainly here because I was hoping to confirm its compatibility with the Apple Pencil. I too was hoping that they might at least lower the price a bit or something, but I guess that will not happen anytime soon. ;-;
Well, at least, I will not have to get the iPad Pro to be able to access some of these features.

The Crayon essentially IS a budget Pencil. Uses the same technology as the Pencil, minus pressure sensitivity. For half the price. Apple obviously partnered with Logitech for a budget Pencil, probably for branding and marketing reasons. To keep the Pencil brand premium and top of the line. I’m sure they have an agreement to license Pencils technology but exclusively for iPad and not other tablets. So they have an ecosystem of stylus for iPad without dominating and crushing out all other accessory makers. I’m betting they will license the Pencil tech to other accessory makers too, with the same terms
