You had someone getting it on out there!!! That is one squeaky mattress!!!! I commend you for not being distracted by the fun time going on in the background! 😆

TIP to everyone. Get yourself metric tape measure (Zabiki) and measure in MM instead of inches. You will nail measurment more accurately by doing so. Thank you for great video.

You could camp or vice grip to the flat on the tie rod, use that as the reference to keep the measurements distance shorter.

Thank you so much for this information. This will save me some $$$. Appreciate it.

Good video, but don't measure from anywhere on a part you're replacing. If your new tie rod end is a different length yoir alignment will suffer. Measure from a point on the steering knuckle and it won't matter. Cheers.

I usually count the turns when removing the tie rod. If the new bit is the exact same thing then it works for me. Measuring is good if the new tie rod is a different length.

My alignment is perfect on my car and it never been in an accident but when I cracked the lock not loose, I could feel the rod wiggle inside the end. Seems like it’s not grabbing onto enough thread. Been driving like that for 30, 000 miles. Do you think it’s safe afterwards locked tight I could grab the tie rod and shake the whole car. And they didn’t move it with solid.

Sorry if Im off here but If the car is sitting flat on the ground and you take the old janky tierod off new one, adjusted so that it goes in smoothly without force wont that result in the SAME alignment as ya started with or extremly close to it??? maybe Im Uncomplicating it. I have afeeling this would get ME closer than trying to measure & subtract rust/sand etc, thats all complicated to me .... Pop old one out, turn new one on until it easily pops in & tighten the nuts.

This is a no go main reason is because of debris, rust and corrosion overtime, when changing a tie rod end the castle nut that is given doesnt have rust or debris so the measurements of threading on the inner tie rod wont be the same resulting to misalignment, its a good Temporary Alignment till you get to a garage, remember professional equipment is ment for accuracy and safety. So rememer this well! Your own safety is worth more than anything money can buy, you cant buy back your life from a simple mistake.!.

I would pop it out of the knuckle, then just unscrew it off the rod, as opposed to wrenching the rod.

if the new tie rod end is longer than the original part, this wont work, will it ?

Use MM, not inches when measuring that distance. It's way more percise.

Quick note it only works if you are 100% positive that the new tie rod is the same brand same dimension as the old one ❤

Do you trust that the new tie rod end is the exact same length as the old?
Remember that the old ball joint is sloppy.
That changes the distance from the center of the ball joint to the end of the tie rod end.

A mechanic is doing this for me he says I dont need alignment is that true

ALWAYS MEASURE ALL THE WAY TO THE WHEEL END. SOME TIE ROD ENDS ARE LONGER THAN ORIGINAL.
