A downtown Toronto walk through St James Town. An area considered to be the densest highrise neighbourhood in all of Canada. I start at Sherbourne Station and meander around the neighbourhood finishing up at Castle Frank Station.

Recorded in 4K at 60 FPS on Thursday, September 21, 2023.

Good stuff cuh. Reminds me of co-op city in the Bronx in terms of tall residential buildings but outside of downtown.

My wife and I stayed at a airbnb apartment in this area for several days in 2019. It was great to see it again - in fact you walked right by our building across from the Rose school. Our visit was quite a change from our small town life in Michigan - and certainly different from the Toronto tourist areas we've frequented in the past. Toronto is a wonderful city and it's always great to see more of it.

Good morning, and yes, the St Jamestown Highrise apartment neighborhood is the densest and most highly populated in the country.

There are a few government geared- to-income rental apartment buildings and other rental apartment buildings.

Some interesting facts about St James Town. Buildings were constructed in the late 1960's/early 1970's and was considered the Liberty Village of its day. A friend worked with the principal structural engineer who did a lot of work on those buildings. Extraordinary for the time, concrete (compressive strength) was rated to 70 Mpa. Even today that is extreme. A nuclear bomb could hit and those buildings wouldn't go down. Built to last.

The area seems to be maintained. Does the area regulate vendor sales on sidewalks like NYC?

This area is a dump. If you want to see the results of bad urban planning and rent controls, this is it.
