What Persephone Books do is truly a labour of love, so glad they are celebrating their 25th anniversary. I'm not able to go to Bath, but thanks to your video I've decided to celebrate by picking up my copy of 'Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day'. Maybe I'll even have a 1930s cocktail with my celebratory reading!

My favorite Persephone book is High Wages, about an elegant working-class young woman who didn't always get treated the way she deserved.

In the middle of Thunderclap by Laura Cumming. Simply captivating story about the life of painters unknown to me and their works and life. Always some tragedy and struggle in their lives. Thank you for such a unique and original read!

If you enjoyed “English Climate: Wartime Stories” I highly recommend “Goodnight Mrs. Craven” by Molly Panter-Downes. I’ve read both and actually enjoyed Mrs Craven more…wonderful letters written for the New Yorker by Panter-Downes during WWII from London. A real slice of life. Read this during the first COVID lockdown and so much was still relatable and comforting. Great list Miranda!

Great video. I went to Persephone last year when Nicola Beauman did a brilliant talk on Domestic Feminism which I really enjoyed. I was delighted recently to see the whole talk has been transcribed in the new edition of the Persephone Biannually. It's a fascinating read!

I like Persephone books, they look so beautiful. I have two grey books by R C Sherriff, Greengates and The Hopkins Manuscript, they are wonderful, especially the later. I definitely should buy The Fortnight in September, it’s one of my favorite books and I have read it in Russian. Thank you for your recommendations, Miranda, there is a lot of choices as usual. What a fun coincidence that Friday I picked up the movie Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day from my local library and plan to watch it today 📽. Thank you for so many wonderful recommendations. Persephone books are very expensive here in Australia and I was very lucky to pick some up second hand recently, one was The Home-maker.
