We recently spent some time with the 2015 Honda Pilot, which is worth a look for any driver interested in a family-friendly SUV. Yes, it's starting to feel a bit dated, given that its basic design is now 7 years old, but it still offers a lot of items that will appeal to a family interested in a new SUV.

In addition to offering a 3.5-liter V6 that's more than adequate for most needs, the Pilot offers good gas-mileage numbers: up to 18 miles per gallon in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. It also offers reasonable pricing that ranges from around $31,000 for a base-level LX model to just over $40,000 for a top-of-the-line Pilot Touring.

On the outside, the 2015 Honda Pilot offers a more muscular look than its carlike ride and driving experience suggest. Inside, it boasts clever storage and roomy seating for up to 8 passengers, along with available trizone climate control and a rear-seat DVD entertainment system. Cargo space is also impressive, especially considering the Pilot's fold-flat rear seats.

No, the Pilot isn't the newest model in the midsize SUV segment -- which includes rivals such as the Ford Explorer and Jeep Grand Cherokee. However, it still might win you over with its many family-friendly virtues.

Let's look at other 2015 models.

Traverse hasn't been redesigned since 09
CX-9 hasn't been redesigned since 07
Arcadia....07
Journey...07

So Pilot still has some merit. Don't assume it's the "oldest" of the competition.

I dont understand why its comparable to the cherokee when it has a third row. $3k in rebates right for this one, Im not sure if I should just wait for the redesigned 2016.

Major reboot in 2016.  Don't bother unless you pick one up at year end for cheap.

More comprable to the Durango than the Cherokee.

The design looks a decade old, in and out. Man are these guys behind. Even Hyundai is kicking their ass. Pathetic.
