The best part of the south is the BBQ spots and cooking community. Genuinely some of the nicest people I have met in my food travels. They put the soul in soul food

East Texas and Dallas & Houston has lots of soul food. I’m a 63 year old White Texan and our regular home meals were commonly soul food. When later in life Black folks at work were talking about soul food it occurred to me that other than a few things like intestines I’ve had it all, even grains and eggs once as a 8 year old cooked by a neighbor in Dallas.
Cornbread, cabbage, iced tea, black eyed peas, collard greens, fried catfish, fried okra (we grew it in the backyard), seasoning with hocks, pork chops, … the stuff dreams are made of.

To me, fried pickles are mushy. 😝 My mom is from Alabama and I grew up on southern cooking. Yum! 😋

In Mexico we call them tripitas, here in the USA I think u call them tripe, and with some corn tortillas, the tripe, and some salsa y una cerveza. Deliciosos tacos

There’s probably a million people in Mississippi who know how to cook chitlins and he managed to find the one who can’t😂

I wish they had real soul food in my state. Fried pickles are amazing. In our family we eat all kinds of different meats vegetables we try everything at least one and twice just to make sure and if you eat it 3 times you love it

Everyone - "This man hosed it inside out,
boiled the living hell out of it,
then fried it,
but yet,
still tasted like shit"

I went up north for a vacation and couldnt get grits with my breakfast. I thought they were common all over the world but some places just dont have them. The waitress even had to ask what grits were but I'm positive they have some foods up in canada that I've never heard of either. Awesome the little differences in food just by going 800 miles

I'm burnt out on most soul/slave food meals. After 50 years I'm very selective.
