Mate as a lifelong dedicated bream-on-artificials angler with about 40yrs experience under the belt...I have to say literally everything in this vid is gold, easily the best advice I have seen in a bream vid how-to to date. Off topic a touch but as a teen I approached you at the Fremantle Museum in Western Australia where you where filming a piece on the Batavia wreck for a series you did on the Abrolhos, I think for channel 7 at the time, and you were so genuine I literally went home and tore down the posters in my room of The Cure, Guns and Roses and Creedence to replace them with Modern Fishing photos of Steve Starling, Harro and Cussack pics holding up jaw dropping fish...my highschool sweetheart was literally horrified! :) Great vid chief, from a fellow bream tragic in southwest WA.

I always look forward to your videos Starlo. I watch every fishing video I can find, but yours are light years ahead of the rest.

Just like that bream in the video, immaculate. I have to totally agree with the slowing down tip, almost to the point of dead stick. I'm primarily a top water guy and I've left the lure sitting on top for up to 30 seconds before moving it, I tripped on this tech once when I answered the phone just after a cast, about half a minute into the conversation whamo...bream on, now I will wait till all the splash rings dissipate before I move the lure.

If only we had YouTube back in the day when I first started trying to catch Bream on lures!
Back then (2006) it was watching your Squidgy DVD s and emails to yours truly to get me on the right path (and you were always helpful with whatever multitude of questions l had) 🙂

Starlo thank you! I’ll use this masterclass as a resource to drink from. The insights you’ve shared show the respect you have for every aspect of fishing. You tread so lightly and leave no tracks, no scars. Respect!

Such a good video, Steve.
Please bring back the bug. That little thing was a bream bomb.

I remember buying your book, How to catch bream on lures and flies, at a fishing seminar at Complete Angler. I asked you the question at the time what is your prefered loop knot to tie, and you replied the reverse uni knot. I have been using this knot on light leaders ever since and it has served me well, as did your book [and Bushy] on how to catch bream on lures.
Thank you for everything you have done and are still doing for the fishing community.

Love the way you put these videos together Starlo. Precise, somewhat not bias to Shimano ha but overall your years of experience are invaluable 🙏. Your tips and tricks are watched not only by me, but by my son and my father. Love it, keep up the great work

Good job Starlo

You’re a brave man going out there barefooted.

I recon these days with the popularity of spots there is a boatload of busted off hooks and sinkers and lines on the bottom

I’ve even wondered about the local council should send out a frogman once every 12 months to see what he can pull up

I Don’t mind going trout fishing up in the Highcountry for trout and if you walk out barefoot up to your knees, I reckon you’d be 50-50 stepping on a bloody hook ……!!

They should do a cleanup from time to time

The best introductory videos for chasing bream on lures that one can find on youtube Steve. I cannot wait to send this to my brother and his son who I have managed to get interested in lure fishing. It will make a great reference for them to learn from.

By the way, it is good to see The Rivers and the Sea on the shelf!
Cheers, Shannon Holopainen

agree on the uni loop. I have tried doing a uni version of a lefty/kreh loop so just an overhand knot below the uni to prevent it from closing but it doesnt really matter.

Just back from the old country Steve and catching up with your fantastic videos. We started at a similar age. I’ve got coarse gear, lake / estuary gear, beach gear and it’s all got the SHIMANO stamp on it ❤️ Got a good beard trimmer too mate if you’re in Sydney anytime soon 😂

I agree with getting a couple of stradics/vanfords instead of 1 stella. The stella is beautiful but having 4 stradic/vanfords is way more useful and productive. I have 2 Stradics FL 5000 for salt and freshwater fishing and I'm considering getting the vanford and pairing it with an ultra-light rod for light fishing. Love the content!
