Another interesting comparison (price wise) is the fact that the MG4 Long Range is priced at $58, 537 (on road) compared to the $60, 723 (on road) for the Seal Premium. I have sat in both and the Seal has, by far, a much more refined finish. IMO worth the extra $2.2k.

It is also worth noting that the model 3's parking assistance is only available if you purchase the $5, 100 enhanced autopilot package, along with other features of course.

Thanks Tom....I've gone for the seal premium for the following reasons:
Price,
Wireless android auto,
V2L,
Warranty (6years car),
Physical buttons,
Indicator stalks,
Blade battery.
Teslas charging network is obviously superior but won't be a factor for me as I will be charging from home using solar 99% of the time.
Looking forward to your further reviews and videos 👍

The BYD Performance FSD (Frequency Selective Damping)is not anything like Tesla FSD (Full Self Driving). Tesla’s is about autonomous driving. BYD’s is about ride quality. In other words the BYD FSD adjusts the suspension in response to the road conditions to provide the smoothest ride.

I ordered the Seal Premium. I will use the V2L to feed into the AC input of one of my solar inverters (I don’t use grid power) to power my house when home batteries are low. I can also use it charge my other EV or my electric scooter.

Definitely the Seal is the pick. At least there is no sudden price drop 3--4 times a year or 20% devalue each year.
No stalks is a joke!!

Feel like I’m one of the odd ones out having ordered the LR M3 Highland! I was very keen for the Seal, and it still looks like an amazing car, but I can’t wait for the M3. Fingers and toes are crossed that we might get them a bit earlier than January to March.. just maybe..

Tesla now has some competition.
This is a good thing.
Hopefully BYD can continue to offer cars that are competitive alternatives to Teslas.

Thanks for this upload!👍🌹
Very good and informative.
We only get BYD extended range rwd and awd performance in sweden..not the base model..yet . So this video was really good🏆 5:39

Hi, good review thanks, I was also deciding between Tesla, seal and polestar 2. One thing that turned me against Tesla that’s not explicitly covered in your comparison is that Tesla had no front camera or front parking sensors, it used the forward facing camera for sort of a sensor, but that saw nothing below the nose of the car. I believe highland has the same limitation. So when I returned my test drive Tesla to a spot that had a low wall on the side and a highish concrete stop at the front, the Tesla didn’t see either and it was a hassle parking it. Didn’t expect that from a car costing as much. Plus interior of seal seemed very much more high end.

Tossing up between dynamic or premium

Dynamic is obviously competitive pricing, but premium has all the bells and whistles minus the Torque of performance for 10k more

If you don't drive much and mostly city roads the Dynamic seems to be crazy bargain but the 120mm clearance would be a no go for some. That's similar to a Toyota Supra but on a heavy sedan.

Well done as usual Tom. Thank you. What is the difference in the warranty details between the cars?

Great review Tom
I've had a tesla 3 for a few months now.

Tesla seems the easy answer for me.

I do like the bidirectional charging byd has...hopefully trsla will catch up on this.

Thanx for all your efforts.

The pricing for equivalent models is actually fairly close. The a BYD Premium and the Model 3 SR are so close in spec and are only a few thousand apart and that’s at current pricing (two months ago the Tesla was $58k. Also of note is Tesla’s WLTP figures are for the 19” wheels not the 18’s. The 18’s on a SR is around 554km range so the range is also very similar. Shows the efficiency of the Tesla when you compare battery sizes. Also no one really talks about how heavy the Seal is, will be interesting to see how they handle.

Interested why you ordered the BYD Tom? Will your Tesla wall chargers work with it?

How come the Tesla website and every website I have looked at has the Tesla boot space at 425lt. Yet reviewers, including yourself, have a much bigger boot? Am I missing something? Is it an error on the Australian Tesla website?

Seal

Servicing is required every 12 months or 20, 000km. BYD says the first eight services are priced at $189, $370, $189, $447, $189, $370, $189, and $447, respectively.

Its an average of $299 for a yearly service compared to near zero for tesla

Tom, do you know when people will be able to test drive the BYD Seal?
