My only suggestion is that someone who makes $30K a year isn't taking home the $2, 500 monthly. The take home pay after taxes would be significantly less. Could you do a budget with a more realistic take home pay? I realize that will be different for everyone depending on if they are single, married or have dependents so I guess now that I'm writing this that might be hard 🤔 just a thought!

Looking at this video and I was thinking this is half the price of things in arkansas. This can't be right" then noticed it was 5 years ago. EVERYTHING in this video has doubled EXCEPT the paycheck!

This is a good and realistic budget for your area! Here are some budget items that I have had to include over the years:
Renters insurance
Medical/dental co-pays
Prescriptions
Sinking fund for car maintenance
Pet expenses
Haircuts
Gifts
Sinking fund for annual trip/vacation, e.g., family reunion
Clothing/shoes/accessories
Hobby supplies
Entertainment

$700 is not typical for the rest of the US. It would have been nice to do a budget based on the average rent in America.

Some suggestions I would also include (and have in my own budget) are: sinking funds for car inspection and registration, property taxes on any vehicles, Christmas gifts, other gifts (e.g., birthdays, non-Christmas holidays), medical costs, haircuts (3 or 4 a year), and pet-related expenses if you have a pet. Those are all things I would still spend money on even when in debt. I know some people don't use sinking funds but I think it's better to use them for those expenses that will definitely come up every year so you can be sure you can cover them.

Do you generally consider household essentials in with the grocery budget? Toilet paper, laundry detergent, shampoo, dish soap, toothpaste, etc. We make ours a separate category but I know a lot of budget youtubers include it in with groceries. It's such a tricky category to estimate because some months we only need a couple household items and then other months it seems everything runs out at once! Our household essentials budget varies anywhere between $50-120 a month. If it were included in food that would be a huge chunk out of our food budget so that's why we keep it separate. I love this video idea! Such a great practical tool! Congrats on finishing baby step #3!

It was nice to hear her work was a budget lower than 50, 000 because a lot of other people on YouTube work with budget/income 50, 000 or more. Also, it would be nice to figure in health insurance. I just recently recently recently switch states in my health insurance has gone up because the state that I live in does not have mediccare/Medicaid for lower income people. And my previous state they had lower income options for healthcare. Overall, I thought the video was very helpful. Great job.

If you pay your auto insurance 6 months at a time you can save. Don't pay it monthly.
We save around $135+ by paying our auto insurance 6 months at a time.

I’m so happy you added tithe, because I’m paying that. I live in London and my starting salary is £30, 000 and I’ve been trying to find a way to save enough money. I don’t have debt fortunately but I do have bills like rent, phone bills and will soon start driving and obviously my tithe as well

Hi, Sarah! Sure miss your videos! I see in the comments that you've been busy at work. I wanted to suggest/request a YouTube live video where you give us a quick check in and update. And then you could tell everybody about your work schedule and you wouldn't have to reply to all of these comments asking where you are. Lol! Hope all is well!

I need the community help with answering this question. How do you inform your friends and family you are debt free without coming across as a show-off or being cocky? When you tell them you are broke and can't pay your bills, they show you sympathy, but when you say you are debt free, they despise you. Thanks for your response.

Great budget! I also want to say that I got Sling TV on my Roku for $25. After adding diy channels for me and a sports package for my husband, it still only comes to $36, and you can binge watch shows or watch what's currently scheduled!

Great video for budgeting! It'll be super helpful for those that need to see it written out. Perhaps for future videos keep in mind that Hulu and Netflix raised their prices and apartments aren't really that cheap anymore. I also agree with the others that $2500 take home on $30k a year isn't realistic. It might be helpful in preparation for future videos to check current pricing on these things and draft mock budgets from those numbers.
