its impressive how he almost flicks his eyes at the camera, to the point you dont even really know if what you saw happened, it almost looks edited, like for one frame his eye's snapped onto the camera then went back to normal

Silence of the lambs did something similar, except it felt more intentional, they faced the camara directly towards him and he would look at the camera as the viewer was in the place of starling. One of my favorite movies in a large part because of the camara choices

Because he's the character who mainly has the visions, and the cameraman - as well as the audience - is the presence watching him, and he's acknowledging us.

The ONLY scene where I can confidently say he looked us in the eye is after the fight - while he's walking to the door, he looks right at the camera. As if we're in the same room. All of the other times he "looks at the camera" just seem like he's shifting his eyes around.

The shining is seriously one of the best and most enjoyable movies ever made. Not a second of wasted screen time. The acting, the atmosphere, the mystery.
