Solve for your missing variable given two angles that are a linear pair

👉 Learn how to find the value of an unknown variable in the expressions representing the values of angles given the relationship between the angles. When given expressions representing the values of angles and the relationship between the angle, we make use of the relationship to solve the given expression and thus find the unknown variable.

For instance, when given two expressions representing the values of two complementary angles, we add up the two expressions and equate the sum to 90 degrees, we can then solve and obtain the value of the unknown variable. Similarly, when given two expressions representing the values of two supplementary angles, we add up the two expressions and equate the sum to 180 degrees, we can then solve and obtain the value of the unknown variable.

What if both sides have a problem like for example ( 10x - 2) and (7 x - 12) would you do the same thing?

You add the x terms together so they become 10 x. You then invert -10 to +10 and add it to 180 to get 190. 190 / 10 = 19
19 x 8 = 152.
152 - 10 = 142
19 x 2 = 38
38 + 142 = 180

The angles must add up to 180 in total.
