This is how you break this video down.


So, you want to multiply the average by the number of numbers, in this video's case, is 4 (3+5+x+9 is four numbers being multiplied). This is how he got 24. The reason you want to multiply the average by the number of numbers is that that's the number your 4 numbers should add up to. From here, you subtract 3, 5, & 9. That would be your missing value.
