Pre-eminent "ad hom" in Greek debate textbooks: *"You are a Turk!"*

Nice one David. Many people pull the "you've committed a logical fallacy" card without even understanding what a logical fallacy is.

The way they scream "slippery slope" at someone who genuinely cares about right and wrong, has always utterly made me feel like, "How can we live with these sorts of people?"

Insulting is not an ad hominem.
“You’re wrong because you’re stupid.” - Ad Hominem
“You’re stupid because you’re wrong.” - Insult

Have a watch of Fr. Dcn. Ananias’ recent video on his channel. He also goes through vicious circularity and virtuous circularity.

How do you prove that the impossibility of the contrary leads to truth? You must use logic to prove it, right?
You haven't escaped the problem of circularity, you have just added more premises in the argument.
Overall, disproving logic is just a reductio ad absurdum. There is no way to escape from it.

The one I see the most is people trying to apply logical fallacies to things that aren't logical arguments in the first place. Like there have been times when I've told a story to try and appeal emotionally to someone and that person will say well that's just an anecdote anecdotes don't logically prove anything. And they don't, but my goal was not to make a logical argument. My goal was to appeal to your emotions.

*I want to have faith in God and in the Orthodox Church. But I just cannot force myself to believe in something I don't think is actually true. I love the Orthodox Church and want to join for the community, culture, and spirit. But I have no faith. I feel guilty but also angry that I was told there was a kind, powerful, wise God but I can't see evidence. When I prayed in the past, nothing happened, so I stopped. I'm extremely sad. I wish I could believe. But I am doubtful and only science seems to give answers. I wish I had been raised Orthodox. Someone please help. If God listens to you, please pray for me.*

You can also slip into incest on the "sex is for marriage and procreation" model because that doesnt exclude siblings getting married and having kids.

So you have to talk about other negative consrquences of incest to justify why siblings shouldnt get married, which a "sex positive" person can also do.

Not that this is the point of the video or anything, but as a man of ~ culture and erudition ~ I can't not respond to bad incest reductios

Why was this in my recommended? .-.
Pretty good video but it's too religious for me.

I agree with all these except the slippery slope. I just don’t think it’s a fallacy. The people that argued that relaxing dressing standards would eventually lead to nudity have been totally vindicated. Even if you claim you want to relax them a bit the goalposts seem to always change. Thus seemingly proving the slippery slope as true. I think the only way you prevent the slippery slope is if you are walking towards God, as human nature doesn’t really stagnate you’re either going towards God or away from him. What am I not getting?

Your last example was a bit weak, but I guess if you're presupposed to accept religion then the nonexistence seems illogical. However that doesn't take away from the rest of the video, which was quite good and clear.

The wrong example about slippery slope.
How is the first ?definition? of sex better when it comes to incest? It's like hell worse if the outcome is a damaged kid. And if that's Your only reason why incest is immoral, then how about "unsuccessful attempts". Like suppose two siblings had sex not for pleasure, but to have a baby, but they were unsuccessful, for whatever reason. Was it moral? I'd say no. So I don't see how it relates to sex being an activity two consenting adults do for pleasure.
And if You find any other argument why incest is immoral unrelated to sex, then it applies in both cases... Doesn't it? So how then person advocating for "sexual revolution" would eventually contest allowing incest?
