It's our first time in Sicily, Italy! We're exploring Sicily's capital city of Palermo and letting you know what we think. This is our first impressions of Palermo. We're finding the best things to do in the city.

We start things of in the neighbourhood of Politeama in front of the beautiful Teatro Politeama Garibaldi. We then make our way down the pedestrian shopping street of Via Maquada.

While there we stopped at a well known spot called Ke Palle to try their Arancina (fried rice balls).

We then continued walking where we came upon Quattro Canti (four corners), one of the most photographed places in Palermo. Afterwards we visit the outside of the Palermo Cathedral and the Royal Palace of Palermo or Norman Palace.

We pick things up the next day when we take the bus to the main beach in Palermo, Mondello. Things do not go as planned. We went on a Monday thinking it would be much quieter than the weekend, but the beach was absolutely packed and there was no space left and all the beach clubs were entirely sold out. We stop for a coffee and beer and then leave.

Afterwards we head back out into the city for an aperativo and have an Aperol spritz.

My Dad was in Sicily and North Africa during WWII. I was so excited to be able to visit such a beautiful place after hearing so many stories from my Dad. I will never forget watching a little girl pouting because she did not want to leave the beach.

In Puglia we did 12 cities, and we loved them all ( Gallipoli, Ostuni, Taranto, Otranto, Alberobello, Martina Franco, etc). It was an eye opener. Clean, beautiful, nice people.

Last summer I spent two weeks in Sicily. I really enjoyed Erice, Selinunte, Agrigento, Ragusa, Noto, Siracusa, and Taormina. You can get to Cefalu easily on the train from Palermo.

That beautiful beach has the most stunning setting!! Too bad it’s so crowded. The drink looks marvelous. I LOVE Southern Italy.

Ciao ragazzi! I'm from Catania. You are right. it is call "arancino" (arancini in plural) in the east side of the island. in Palermo they call it "arancina" (arancine, female). but they don't have only a different gender, they're made in a different way too. My advice for the next time you come to Europe, specially if you choose to visit the beaches or museums, is to avoid to come in August. Most people are on holiday in August and everything is crowned (and more expensive). I prefer September, it's still warm and everyone go back to work or school. The places to visit are innumerable, it's difficult to choose just some. Cefalù, Taormina, Siracusa (Ortigia), Noto, Modica, Ragusa, Agrigento (La Valle dei Templi), Trapani e le saline, Erice, Isole Eolie, isole Egadi, riserva dello zingaro, sacala dei turchi, etna... Puglia is smaller but equally beautiful. You could go to Alberto Bello, Ostuni, Polignano a Mare, Monopoli, Lecce, Gallipoli, Otranto, le maldive del Salento (beautiful beach), the list is long. I hope you understand my English. Enjoy your holiday!

Sicily! What a great mid-week video surprise. Love the historical aspect of Palermo. It feels how I imagine an Italian city to be. Definitely "bucket list worthy".😎

I enjoyed Palermo, loved the atmosphere there and how busy it was. Food was amazing as well. If you went further north of Mondello there is a great beach area with mostly rocks but absolutely stunning and a ton more space. Great video!

The very 1st time I tried arancini was in Sicily, and I was spoiled from that moment on. No other arancini in Canada or even other parts of Italy matched up. That looked delicious. I now also have a craving for a spritz, but of course, it has to be in Italy....LOL. - Coreen
