What people forget about Ben Hogan is that he didn’t win a major until he was 34. So he won all his 9 majors in a 7 year spell, his last major was in 1953 at The Open in Carnoustie when he was 41.

I read a book by George Knudsen and he came down from Canada in the late 1950’s and played on the Tour as an amateur for a couple years to learn what the best golfers in the world were doing. He was fascinated by Hogan and studied him every chance he got in order to figure out what made him great. He discovered that everything Hogan did in his swing was done to maintain his impeccable balance. Knudsen became so good at imitating Hogan’s swing that the joke on tour was that he out-Hoganed Hogan. Knudsen became known as one of the greatest ball-strikers in golf history. ⛳️

I hear a lot of younger people say today's players are superior superman compared to the players of the past. They should watch this video of Ben Hogan.

What makes Hogans swing so powerful is that he begins his forward swing as the club is still going back. This creates tremendous lag. It looks like he has a very big swing, but it’s actually not. The effect is created by the club head continuing back as he’s starting his forward swing. That creates a huge arc and the lag that we’re all trying to get for power and great ball striking.

That is called “The Power Golf of Ben Hogan” and this is what I was taught when I was 12, circa 1956! Forty years later, my father seeing me play said: "Hey, you're playing the Power Golf of Ben Hogan" (we used to have the same professor)... I am not an assiduous player and quite conservative!

Takes your breath away! No, it really does, Mr. Hogan.

Wow! That’s the widest stance I’ve scene a pro has, but it obviously worked for him.

Reporter: Mr. Hogan, do you think an athlete smoking presents a good example for children?
Ben Hogan: I’m not an athlete, I’m a golfer.

Why do I get emotional just watching his swing?

Everyone seems to forget that Byron Nelson was the father of the modern golf swing and If it weren’t for him retiring, hogan would have just been a man with a pretty swing like Steve Elkington. More attention should be placed on iron Byron and not Ben Hogan. He invented the swing with the Steele shaft

His swing is what the most modern players do

He has an interesting stance the toe of his tight foot is parallel to the heel of his left foot. If I aimed that far right, it would never hit the fairway. I guess he knows how to draw the ball.

Even in slow motion the club is a blur, that's some swing speed.
