WOW, THANK YOU SO MUCH for making this very easy. No one else posted about this specific drywall challenge. I was going to put backer rod into the gap and hope it would stay while I mudded over it.Thank you for making this old lady who is a DIYer very happy. Stilts are out...have enough trouble just walking around on my own two feet... LOL! GBU! : )

Thanks Duke! I've just done a wall repair and replaced a full vertical sheet. The butts on the sides had large steps due to the tape recess of the new sheet, much like you show at the end of this video. You saved the day.

I hung my house myself. I’ve got a few gaps, but nothing like that.

I hang top sheet first, so any gaps are usually from ceiling waviness.

Im on a job now where the drywall was installed by carps and they left huge gaps. the finishers were pissed. would pros leave no gap at all?
