I'm laughing waayyy too hard at that soup--rise joke.
The telegraphing really improved that. If it hadn't been telegraphed I'd have just gone "heh" but the element of weirdness as I tried to figure out what the joke was and then hearing "soup-rise", then realizing the pun, then realizing the second half of the pun (the soup is rising)... I'm still laughing as I'm typing this.
