Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
Confusion in her eyes that says it all
She's lost control
And she's clinging to the nearest passer by
She's lost control
And she gave away the secrets of her past
And said, "I've lost control again"
And a voice that told her when and where to act
She said, "I've lost control again"

[Verse 2]
And she turned around and took me by the hand
And said, "I've lost control again"
And how I'll never know just why or understand
She said, "I've lost control again"
And she screamed out, kicking on her side, and said
"I've lost control again"
And seized up on the floor, I thought she'd die
She said, "I've lost control"

[Chorus]
She's lost control again
She's lost control
She's lost control again
She's lost control

[Verse 3]
Well I had to phone her friend to state my case
And say she's lost control again
And she showed up all the errors and mistakes
And said, "I've lost control again"
But she expressed herself in many different ways
Until she lost control again
And walked upon the edge of no escape
And laughed, "I've lost control"

[Chorus]
She's lost control again
She's lost control
She's lost control again
She's lost control

Ian wrote this song after seeing a friend suffer an epileptic seizure, and when he heard that she died in the course of an attack he was very shaken.

I used to be a drug counselor in an in patient rehab. Although this song is about a poor unfortunate girl suffering and succumbing to epileptic seizures, the clients used this song as a metaphor for relapsing. It was near and dear, and I believe it did good for a lot of addicts in recovery.

the majority of people who listen to and love JD were not around to see them live but this is testament to Ian's electric lyrics and the JD sound .

As a recovered epileptic sufferer this song expresses completely what I hope nobody else has to experience. So beautifully expressed.

I have song, and Ian's struggles with his epilepsy resonate so much with me...It's crap when your brain shows you up in public 🤯
(luckily my form of epilepsy isn't triggered by flashing lights like the ones in this video 🙄)

The band's ability to convey the complexities of human emotion, coupled with their pioneering use of synthesizers and production techniques, has influenced countless artists across various genres, from rock to electronic music. Ian Curtis's introspective and often troubled lyrics explored themes of despair, love, and existential angst, resonating with fans and offering a cathartic form of connection through his candid vulnerability.

I am living in turkey and I often dont feel like I belong anywhere but joy division's songs. The tiredness and suffering are both emotions of which I feel. No I am not a "my generation is suck" guy I am just really thinking that I dont belong anywhere and there is no hope for me...

Well done! Accompanying a song about epilepsy with a video that can induce epilepsy.... you had one job!

It's a LITTLE weird to have jump cuts that cause a strobe effect (it's technically not flashing light, but it still gives the same effect) as fast as the ones in this video in a song about epilepsy by someone who also suffered from it.
