Do not buy one if you are an apprentice. Don't waste money on something your boss should be paying for

I have that 4 1/2” one hander on the right and absolutely love that saw. Its awesome because its so light and easy to steer because you hand is behind the blade instead of right beside it. It rips 2x4 as fast as any 7 1/4 but your other hand is free to hold a square. Use it with a 5Ah battery and you can cut for 1/2 a day....or a whole day. Awesome for plywood too.

Don't buy tools the contractor should be providing. Next thing you know, you'll be buying materials just to get the job done.
Your commitment to the company is to provide a days work for a days pay. Not to finically support the company.

I've used one of these once as an apprentice, it was at our shop to cut pallets down lol

Yeah I’m not carrying a whole extra tool for the off chance I need to cut wood. But I work in commercial, not much wood present.

I love your videos and teaching.

However I need to disagree with you personally. Nowadays most apprentices are supplied power tools by their employers (at least in my experience) and a lot of times if you are working in a wood frame structure the framers usually don't mind me borrowing a circ saw to make a cut or two.

A sawzall would be a better choice of power tool to personally own but, a circular saw is not a high priority tool necessity for an apprentice.

I have the middle one. If you put a Mason blade in it, it makes cutting into a transformer vault very easy.

I have heard circular saws are also good for cutting windows into enclosures but I havnt used it for this application yet

Must have? nah. I'm not a resi guy but even so, a sawzall is far more versatile.
Used a circular saw twice for building pole bases. I prefer to use my Hackzall.

Was using a left handed skilsaw yesterday and was supprised by how it wasnt uncomfortable for me. Yet if i use my drill or impact left handed its weird

as a twenty plus year long electrician i have used a skill saw exactly ZERO times for electrical work. do not waste your money on this.

6.5 inch is probably the best option, the 4 1/2 inline barely cuts 2x and the 7 1/4 is probably more than an electrician would ever need.

Join the electrical union and the company provides it. ✊️

I use an oscillating tool (or as I like to call it "wiggly") for all my cuts. Cuts wood, drywall, conduit and even big wire. Once in a while I'll break out the sawzall if I have to cut a couple sticks or a temp pole or something.

Such a wide variety of comments. I own one as a lead. Rarely use it, but when I need to make plywood back for a multifamily, rip some 2xs for various situations (Framing for bath exhaust, moving boxes away from trim, building a quick wall for a panel, etc) it is nicer and quicker than an oscillating or reciprocating saw. For an actual apprentice out there this tool should be very low on your priority list. There are a number of power tools to buy before this-drill/driver, recip saw, oscillating tool, sds drill, just to name a few. Those will generally serve you many times more than a circ saw. As for all the comments about the company providing you tools that has not been my experience-I know several companies and not one provides your hand tools or your standard run of the mill battery tools. Union outfits might, but having spent 7 years at a unionize job (not trades related) I got to see all the bad in unions and I have no desire to ever in a union ever again. What's great about the path I've taken is if I ever decide to go solo/1099 I pretty much have everything I'd need except a couple specialty tools.

I’ve been an electrician for the past 5 years. Never needed a circular saw so no it’s not a “must get tool”

I’ve got that middle size one but would love one of the little guys cause let’s be honest 99% of the time it would work just fine
