Half the people who get cancer treatment in this country either declare bankruptcy or foreclosure because of medical debt.

If you're struggling for your life, you shouldn't be worried about paying your bills.

That is exactly what happened to us. My husband was hospitalized 8 times, we had to file for bankruptcy, we were always broke and struggling, then he got diagnosed with cancer during the lockdowns and his hours were cut in half. The house I was in for 18 years was going into foreclosure. He was so stressed out there was no way any cancer treatment could possibly work. He passed away in November of 2020 and my heart still hurts.

I know a couple who had to get divorced in order to qualify for necessary cancer treatments. They still lived together as a divorced couple. They made too much money together in order to afford the treatments.

You know. They should make a show about how expensive it is to treat cancer and the stress it puts on a person and their family. How it can push someone to turn to a life of crime and make you get so angry you throw a pizza on your roof or something. Maybe then people would understand.

My father has been fighting cancer on and off almost 20 years..he's beaten it 3 times I'm afraid to ask what that total is..easily getting close to million they barely enough to get by I help them some weeks and I'm barely getting by...how the hell can people still be proud of this country

It came out today that the US is in LAST place in life expectancy among English speaking nations (UK, New Zealand, Ireland, Australia and Canada). We are supposedly the richest nation on Earth and this is the best we can do? Come in last? It's absurd. I've heard people say to get care and not pay but in most states hospitals and other medical providers can attach wages and put liens on your home if you owe money due to medical bills. Absolutely disgusting!

Having every single Medicare healthcare provider sticking low income seniors with 20% of every bill is CRUEL! Had to have two surgeries and I'm pissed off at my portion. It's worse than cruel actually especially when hospitals start hounding you and threatening you. It's ridiculous.

Im in Montreal. Just spent a day in the emergency care unit as my 5 year old neice is sick. She was moved a long quickly and the level of care was amazing. She and her mother have their own room with a view and they won't pay anything at all out of pocket.

We still have a lot of room to improve interms of speed and efficiency but no one is going broke because they got sick here. We pay for this with our taxes.
