METABOLIC BONE DISEASE (MBD) Tortoise with soft/flexible shell.

This video shows the effects of Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD) in a 10+ year old Sulcata Tortoise.

MBD is caused by an inadequate supply of calcium, or an imbalance in the calcium:phosphorus ratio. Tortoises need UVB lighting or natural sunlight for Vitamin D3 synthesis.

Wow that UV-B is so important. Also didn’t know that windows block things they need. Thanks 🙏

I have a yellow bellied slider and a red eared slider . Although they donot have any Uv light or heat bulb, their shells are pretty healthy and quite hard . Their tubs are permanently placed in front of the window for 4 hours of sunlight . Sunlight is the best😊
Nice video!😁

Great video! Do the white/dry lines on the shell have anything to do with metabolic bone disease? My Sulcatas shell looks exactly like that but his shell is hard and does not flex.

Great educational video. Doesn't diet also play a major role in pyramiding?

Why is pyramiding considered bad when its natural in nature.

My red eared slider has wiggly shell at the end above their tail. Do you have any advice to helping him? Can I just give him some cuttle bone and let him bask in UV B?
