How Do You Mask a Layer in Affinity Photo? The non-destructive power of masking

preview_player
Показать описание
Masks are applied as a separate layer, allowing them to be freely edited and moved. Mask layers affect any layer below them within the Layers panel. They can also be clipped to individual layers so that only that layer is affected. Alternatively, mask layers can be added to layer groups so they only affect that group.

SUBSCRIBED! What the hell did I just watch? I've watched Masking vids over the last10-15 years. This was the most concise and understandable. So much information presented in a clean, thoughtful, concise way. TY TY TY! Dear YOUTUBE; Please learn from this. In 9 minutes he covers what others take 30 mins a 3 different vids to cover. He even pauses so you can actually see where his cursor is(where he clicks). No need for rewind pause "Wait...what, what did they click?!" Only one thing I would wish for is a highlighted cursor. But his is on large so that helps. He even shows shortcut keys that he uses for added value. YOUTUBE PLEASE WATCH this and learn.

This is all good, thank you for it. Subscribed. But can you please explain how you added all 3 layers in? I've looked and have tried to add them, but not sure if I have added properly. (The 2nd layer, when added, seems shrunk).

Thank you for this video. But I just want to select a person in a photograph and place a rectangle behind the person so you see the background around the rectangle and the person is in front of the rectangle.
I selected the whole photo layer, then selected the person using the select brush tool, then created a mask layer from the whole photo layer with the selection. But when I add a rectangle layer and basically try to put the rectangle behind the person (Selected mask layer) but in front of the rest of the photo, I cannot get that 3 layer effect with the rectangle in front of the background but behind the person.
Do you have any videos showing this?

Let say I mask a picture above a picture, I just want someone’s head for example. I have masked the head but when I move the head it leaves a hole in the background picture. I have switched from photoshop to affinity photo and things sure are different. Yeah the hole is the shape of the head
