I bought a 2-gallon bucket and 4-inch roller....already had the trim brush from Purdy. I love this set-up. I'm not a professional, just helping people paint their homes, but this has made it much easier and more enjoyable. Thank you for all your videos. I've learned a lot from you guys!

Thanks for this video. Cutting in neatly has always been a challenge, but after having seen this I was able to cut in all around a smallish room with only slight variations in the line - less than 1mm! The small roller thing is super-effective, and really minimized the visible brush strokes.

I don't care what all the haters said in the comments. The technique worked great for me and I paint a room maybe once every three years. I think I'm much more your audience than they are.

A good tip for beginners, take a putty knife and rub the corner where the wall and ceiling meet. Use very light pressure, this creates a light line you can trace to get a clean look.

15 year painter here. I've tried all brushes mentioned and the all have merit.. the game changer was Proform brushes. Picasso for cutting. The blaze for trim. Never again will I use anything else. They flat out make more money. Oval. Once fully loaded they outperform all others in terms how far you can get with one dip. They go for days.. you'll run out of arms reach before it runs out of paint.. plus with the design, the bristles get SO sharp it's the cleanest, straightest, tightest line I've ever seen. Sure the bristles don't last as long as Wooster and the like but $14 a pop I'll take it.. $25 for a purdy? Never again. I know he is controversial but Jack Pauhl does impressive things with both I mentioned.. even if he is full of himself.. great video. Keep it up guys!

Painter 30 plus years. When I cut in, I don't tap the bucket, I wipe the narrow end of the toe ( it seems that's where drip come from). Then I quickly lay down the paint 1/2 inch away from ceiling, then go back to beginning with the drier brush and move the paint I just laid out up to the edge. It's quick for me. On a flat wall flat ceiling, it seems you have to decide what side to make your line. I usually make the line slightly on the ceiling side, then stay consistent and do all edges the same. God bless.

I've also adapted to using the mini roller to roll out the cut-ins. It does a great job of getting rid of that boxed-in look in the finished product.

Just started a painting business with a buddy and he's been at it for years and has his own style. He makes it look easy, but I think this will really help me with my cut in. Especially the brushes being specific for just cutting in. I bought a purdy nylox brush and it puts on paint great for what we were doing, but I was struggling to cut in with it just because it's super soft. I'll be investing in a clear cut in the very near future for the next job we have lined up and see how that goes.

Really great video. Thanks for the tips. I'm doing 5 bedrooms in my house right now and I am seriously considering painting the ceilings the same color as the walls.
I suck at cutting in and when I mask it the paint just bleeds under the tape anyway. Because of the heavy texture on the walls.

Thanks guys. So do you favor using a mini-roller, or a roller cover on a cage after cutting in an area? I was thinking the mini-roller would only be good for smooth surfaces.

Cut in always gets more coverage and takes less coats so I roll first and then either cut in once or twice and then finish w final wall roll at the end. Rolling first also creates a good guideline for cutting so in the end you can really make the most of ur paint. If there's drywall repair then cut in might come first.
