Virtualizing Windows 10 ARM on an M1 Mac!

In this video I will be testing out the internet speed with the latest Microsoft Edge, emulating x86 (32-bit) Windows apps and running a Geekbench test. This is only the beginning of WoA virtualisation on these new Macs!

Windows on a *Mac* runs better than official Microsoft hardware.
*oof*

Special thanks to Alexander Graf for first making Windows 10 ARM emulation working on the M1 Macs through QEMU!

My jaw dropped when I saw it was better than the Surface Pro X. Can you imagine how much it would be better if Bootcamp was made available for M1

Thanks for the upload and all your efforts. I'm very, very impressed. I didn't expect it to happen so fast.

Honestly this is the first time that I've been interested in a mac computer. Being a first gen product, it's really impressive but I'll wait for gen 2 because personal experience has told me to *never* touch 1st gen stuff.

This is really good video when you compare a ton of random reviews for m1 on the wild just showing avi video encoding.

Even emulating Win 10, it is almost 4 times faster than the Windows laptop I have at home, which is enough for my usage.

When game developers start migrating to MacOS, I can't imagine the beginning of the end for intel!

Overall I'm quite surprised how fast a lot of features are for this ARM version of Windows. And that's without any graphics acceleration / VM tools :)

Is it just me or did the fans on the M1 Mac Mini finally decide to kick in? This is impressive, the M1 being a (numerically speaking) first generation M-Series chip this is pretty much a safe example of Apple not even trying! Imagine when the M-series chips start making their way into the 16 inch MBP, iMac, Mac Pro. I’m shivering.

The first machine I run Windows 95 on was my Acorn RiscPC in the 90s. It supported multiple processors, the core processor being an ARM6 but I also had a 486 in it. They shared, RAM and peripherals and graphics in so much as the ARM acted as a secondary IO processor for the x86 and accelerated the graphics. I could run native Acorn ARM software and Windows 95 at the same time. This was 25 years ago. It doesn’t surprise me the M1 is good. Also with the way they’ve designed the processor to efficiently emulate x86 I can see virtualised emulated x86 machines running Windows soon.

Seeing all the videos relating to M1 make me feel want to upgrade. But i just bought my Macbook last year v2019. So I'll probably wait until 2023 after my apple care and the 4-year keyboard warranty end. So far I don't need the extra power yet and an upgrade to 2020 M1 will turn my return-on-investment negative. I would, however, love to have a faster machine just to increase my work productivity. I'm a business student btw. 🤷‍♂️

This is a very impressive video. An unoptimized version of Windows runs better on M1 hardware than a Surface? It took a while, but I think Apple is finally ready to improve the Mac "for the rest of us".

Been super keen to get an M1 Mac as I'm desperate to upgrade from my 2011 MacBook Air 11", but I think I'll hold off for the 'proper' MacBook Pro, hopefully within 3-6 months as the 14" redesign!
Keep the M1/Mac/Windows VM videos coming!

1:14 - Why's Edge not native ARM64? It'd be one of the most used programs on Windows 10 for a regular user!

Hm nice new intro! Pretty nice that windows is back with this app after bootcamp got fazed out. Also, can you do a video on the Startup Options and other Apple Silicon startup screens on the Mac mini?
