The swept hilt looks better, but the cup hilt must definitely be the most protective.

I enjoy seeing others who share my interest in bladed weapons. There is nothing so graceful as a rapier. Not having access to an instructor, I obtained a copy The Complete Rapier Workbook and a Colt Steel cavalier rapier. Never knew handling a blade could be so complicated.😅😅

Swept hilt has always been my favorite, ever since the early 90s when I would drool over the pictures in my “Mueseum Replicas Limited” catalog.

Basically, they are the same weapon at different evoultion states, being the cup guard "the final form" because it protected the hand the best.

My two favorite styles are Saxon and Bilbao rapiers.
