Neil deGrasse Tyson: How Einstein’s 'Blunder' Predicted Dark Energy.

Neil deGrasse Tyson explains how Albert Einstein once introduced a mathematical term into his equations to account for a static universe, a concept he later regretted and called his "greatest blunder." Einstein's equations initially suggested that the universe was either expanding or collapsing, an idea unheard of at the time. In an attempt to stabilize the universe, Einstein added a "pressure force" term to counteract gravity. However, just a few years later, Edwin Hubble discovered that the universe was indeed expanding, rendering Einstein's addition unnecessary. Ironically, in 1998, scientists found a force similar to what Einstein had proposed, known as dark energy, that pushes against gravity in the universe, validating his "blunder" in a new way!

When I was a child, back in the 1940s, my folks would take day trips on the weekend. One weekend we went up to Princeton. While driving up the street, we saw Einstein on his daily walk. Though I was only a boy, five or six years old, I'll never forget that.

Einstein.... I m so proud of him. He was the best of my students.

When I was young my father and I were driving through Princeton NJ when he pointed out Albert Einstein wearing a sleeveless button down red sweater. He was just standing behind a picket fence watching the cars drive by. I doubt he was actually thinking about the cars at the time. I believe it was in 1953.

I am never wrong. Once I thought I was wrong. But I was proved to be wrong.

Ayah adh-Dhariyat (The Winnowing Winds, The Scatterers) 51:47. We built the universe with ˹great˺ might, and We are certainly expanding ˹it˺.

I luv the fact that you speak in layman’s terms so people can understand what you are saying. Thank you

The stuff he investigated and codified is utterly incredible. His intelligence in Physics and Mathematics was unmatched. Huge.

John Clauser, Alain Aspect, and Anton Zeilinger
Won the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physics for their work on quantum mechanics, which disproved Einstein's theory that hidden variables exist:

John Clauser: In 1969, Clauser experimentally demonstrated that particles can be entangled, even when separated by a distance.

Alain Aspect: In 1981, Aspect conducted an experiment to rule out a loophole in John Bell's theoretical test.

Anton Zeilinger: In 1997, Zeilinger conducted an experiment using entangled light particles at a distance of 40 feet.

Einstein believed that hidden variables influenced the results of measurements, but the work of these three physicists proved that these variables do not exist. Their work has led to the development of quantum computers, quantum networks, and quantum encrypted communications.

Isn't it wonderful that every so often we are privileged to have an individual that is so smart that everything around us starts to change because this unique person will discover what is really going on.

We were privileged to have Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking, were two that stands out in my lifetime. There were many more that didn't seem to shine as much but were great in their work too.

Einstein was so smart that even when he was wrong, he was right....

Yet when he was asked " what's it like to be the smartest mam alive?" He replied " I don't know, you need to ask Nikola tesla". This is how you can tell one has true knowledge and wisdom.

relativity suggests the universe is BOTH expanding and contracting at the same time, this is why the original equation works without the universal constant, the fact we can measure objects moving away from us is only relative to us, if we were observing from the other side of the object it would be moving towards us... the thing is Einstein's equation is literally saying there was no singular big bang but an infinite amount of big bangs everywhere...

I'm Einstein's friend Larry. I gave him all these equations because I'm an introvert. I'm glad he did something useful with them

In high school I fell in love with Einstein. I it hasn’t changed. If I had been in charge of where I was, I would like to think I would have traveled to his neighborhood just to be near him.
