The first edition of Anton's Calculus Book is really interesting. Unlike other book's, the first edition is larger than the second edition. The addition material in the First edition was biographical information dozens of mathematicians. It is like a combination math history and calculus book. So if you were doing questions in the book, you could take a break and read the bio of someone. Later editions still have biographical info but not as much at that first edition. That is reason, I hold onto that first edition.

This brings back memories. I learned calculus from the 1st edition of this book. A very well written book then and seems to have evolved well. Thanks for the review.

That's my old Calculus textbook which I used when I took AP Calc...we used 3rd edition with pictures of Newton and Leibniz on the front cover. Still have it to this day.

I learned calculus from a later version of Howard-Anton. It was a part of self study, took me over 2 years.

Looks like a great book. i like the pictures of the mathematicians. Using Mathemnatica to plot those 3d surfaces is a nice way to check those maxima, minima and saddle points as well, or to generate contour plots.

Used this one for years. Loved the cover and the portraits

I bought the 8th edition from a drift store in Montreal; I really relish this book as it is an excellent and more comprehensive reference than most single variable calculus textbooks while at the same it does omit some of the extraneous details from a purely multivariable calculus textbook. Personally, I like applied mathematics for engineering differential equations and machine learning applications, while I am not too fond of abstract proofs lol.

The way sir reviews these books which enable us to fall in love in the books of Mathematics. Sir g love you from Quetta. I only watch sir's book reviews on mathematics but I can't buy these due to poorness and my country's currency. But I love these whole books which sir reviewed.

Thank you so much, I bought this book along with Calculus Made Easy from Silvanus. So I can (re)-learn the math again.

Hey Math Sorcerer! Can you do some videos on books like mathematician biographies, math history, or math expository book?

One should never flip a page by trying to skid the top right angle, you should lift it!

It is nice book. I use it in side to side with James Stewart's calculus. It make easy to use two books.

I recently purchased the book Calculus by Swokowski 5e and I was wondering if you could do a review on it. I also purchased the Precalculus book by Stewart, Redlin and Watson as I found it easier to carry one book rather than my College algebra by blitzer and Trignomoetry by Lial, Hornsby and Schneider.

Ha! I have this exact book on my shelf! Calc 1, 2, & 3 in '98 & '99. One of only 2 textbooks I kept from my BSes in Math & in Stat. (The other is "Proofs from THE BOOK" 2nd ed. by Aigner & Ziegler. It's a collection of proofs so elegant they might be included in Erdos' proposed "God's book of elegant proofs".)

5:35 iirc, you would see this again in the Kreyzsig, so it's good to get it down even if you wind up forgetting it later. That may seem nonsensical, but things come back faster if you ever get them down in the first place, so it's not wasted time to consider.
