The Schrade SCHF38 Bushcraft Knife is brand new for 2015. It's a full tang knife with a 6" blade of 1095 carbon steel and TPE handles. It's one tough tool that would be a great survival knife.

I think these knives are groundbreaking for quality, design, and price point

My best friend gave me this knife as a gift and I love it. I agree with you regarding the traction coating on the blade though. The idea behind a polished blade is to reduce friction and, thus, increase the cutting efficiency of the edge. The "high traction" coating is, therefore, counter-intuitive. I stripped the blade (love removable scales) and cold blued it. It's a tough, razor-sharp beauty that is patterned after the ever popular French Trade Knife design. I highly recommend this one!

I own 3 Schrade knives that aren't Absolute Crap..
And this is one of them..
Its a beast of a thing lol.. (strongest tip out of the 3 in the series apparently)
Good thing I'm a sucker for a drop point..
But I would call it a survival knife rather than a bushcraft knife..
For how thick it its sharp.. and easy to keep sharp..
I gave it a light sand.. but will probably cold blue it eventually..

I can’t believe I didn’t see this video five years ago. I found this knife on eBay when I was looking for get home bag survival knives today 9/7/20. This looks like a good knife. I want something around 5”, good steel, low price and reliable. I’ll check amazon too.

I’d rather split red oak than some pines. Seems like a good knife, I just ordered one. Thanks and take care.

I just received this knife in the mail. This is a really well proportioned knife. It’s just the right length, thickness, handle size and it’s razor sharp. The finish is thick and rough and is the only thing about it that I might complain about because if it was blued or simply stripped clean, I’d think this was a $100 or $150 knife.

How was the comfort of the handle while you were chopping?
You know, you would be more than welcome to send that dirty knife up north for another video review...

I love throwing a knife, its perfectly natural for the kid in us to throw a knife and stick it good;) Your eye gets a twinkle every time you stick that tree, if it don't make ya happy then you should look for what does. Obviously you have found your happy place, I can't wait to get my fist Schrade and it seems I picked a perfect time to start bushcraft survival stuff. Another nice vid brother

Great review Bryan! This is my least favorite of the new Schrade bushcraft series, but that's like saying pralines and cream is my least favorite flavor of ice cream. It's ice cream. I'm still gonna eat it. And the SCHF38 is a nearly 1/4" thick, 1095 carbon steel, survival/bushcraft/tactical knife for under $40. I'm still gonna get one.

Nice review. I want this knife but just think that it's too thick to be good for anything outside of batonning. At 14 oz thats quite hefty jack of all trades. Seems like the SCHF 42 would be more well rounded.
