Mormons vs. The Holy Ghost: Why Mormons can't figure out what the spirit feels like...

Hello brothers and sisters, for those of you who don’t know me my name is dewey hickman and today I’ve been asked to talk about the spirit of god and how to recognize it as it teaches us truth. And if you’re at all unsure about what the spirit feels like then I’ll go into unhelpful amounts of detail here, because it would be just a little bit ridiculous if–not just you–but the entire church was confused about how to identify something so fundamental as the whisperings of the spirit.

How the spirit works in mormonism is actually very simple. From the time I was a tiny person I was taught that god teaches us truth through good feelings. If you get good feelings when you go to church, that is the holy ghost confirming the church is true. If you pray and get good feelings then that is the holy ghost confirming the church is true. If when, as a newly baptized 8 year old, you poured yourself a bowl of cereal one sunday morning and your mom came out and told you that it was fast sunday so with tears in your eyes you ABANDONED the cereal only to have your mom get up in fast and testimony meeting to tell the whole congregation how proud she is of you for CHOOSING to fast instead of eating cereal and the only thing your 8 year old brain can think is “what?? You mean I had a choice?? I could have chosen–THE CEREAL??”, THAT is the holy ghost confirming the church is true. Make sense? Of course it does! Because EVERYTHING is the holy Ghost confirming the church is true. Don’t over complicate it.

I found a pattern with certain friends and family members. The ones who calimed to feel the spirit more than others all had certain qualities. 1. a story teller that exagerates 2. Extremely emotional being able to cry on the spot with any story 3. A saleman type personality 4. Has no skeptic qualities. 5. very prideful 6. dont forget extreme ignorance. ( and dont get me wrong there are times when I had a spiritual experience I called it weird and unusual, difficult to explan. then again i could be my imagination)

1:26 The church has actually been around way longer than that. It just got restored 1830 after the great apostacy. Thats why its called The Church of Jesus Christ of LATTER day saints.
