The 4 different types of DTC codes, and what do they mean?

P (powertrain) Engine, transmission, transfer case, emissions, and other components that convert the engine power into movement.

B (body) Seats, windows, doors and, other elements in the passenger compartment area. On newer vehicles tire size, and TPMS can be reached through the remote control door lock receiver.

C (chassis) Wheels, Brakes, suspension systems, ABS, etc.

U (user network) Functions that are driven and managed by vehicle onboard computer. ie. lin bus

Thank you very much. My use s63 coupe check engine in came on. I scan and got ctdtc 1 . I remember they just put brand new brakes and rotors all 4.

Do you know if VW trouble codes are recorded by the vehicle ?

I got a C3883 code on my vw golf mk7 gti. I didn’t get it on my dash I got it on my Cobb access port. And i can’t find anything online about it.
