"I write so slowly that I could write in my own blood without hurting myself." - Fran Lebowitz. I'm not quite there but I'm close. If I get 250 words it's a good day.

Stopping myself from editing as I go has been the best thing for me. It's been so hard to let go, but i'm farther than I have ever been!

Writing every day is the best solution to this imo

I wrote my first draft with an editing mindset, choosing just the right words and making my prose flow perfectly. It was slow, painful, and made fitting in edits later a pain. Never again. Write the words, then edit, then polish.

I'm just starting out as a writer and I've found writing every day does not work for me. I am keeping track of my writing in a spreadsheet. In the last 2 weeks, I've sat down to write 5 times, totalling 15k words. Once I finish up a section, leave a day or 2 before I write the next bit. I've found it lets my mind process the story and come up with new ideas. The tracker is one of my main motivations though, I'm always aiming for a new highest word count for the day.

5:02 I agree!! Same with songwriting. I love the actual creative process and challenges.

Thank you very much for being clear, concise and to the point, while pointing out everything we're guilty of. 😁

I write very quickly (and very messily), whenever I have a spare moment, with mechanical pencil (or pen) into steno-notepads. I then dictate the day’s pages into Word. It gives me two drafts almost immediately and lets me hear my writing out loud.

Every single one of these ideas are so great! I had alot of 'duh' moments because they're simple, yet I hadn't thought of them! Soooo helpful! Thank you!

Ive been writing 2k words a week every day the past month. I realized that it isnt good if I write without having a finished story though so I am working out all the scenes now. I feel like its important to consider everything you do writing, even resting and thinking. That way you dont feel bad if you havent written a lot because other parts like planning are equally important

Great advise! Follow these tips and you’ll have your first draft finished in a couple of months. Then you’ll have to edit for a few months and then you’ll have to spend a few months trying to promote it. But you need that first draft done and this is a great way to get it done. 😊

I had my book idea over 10 years ago and now it keeps coming up 😅 “Write that damn book!!”

Thanks. This was so helpful. I'm going to start with a word count goal for the day. I've been really lost in my writing lately.

I feel like I have to edit at least a little as I write because if I’m reading back over it and it’s not fairly clean and snappy I’m disappointed in it. I’ve done just that and then rewrote the entire portion the next day

Too late, I already am...😅

Funnily enough these are all things I've discovered for myself, but not yet been able to put into conscious, consistent practice.

Thanks for the list😄

Yes, knowing where you're going makes you go faster. I think, do that for every chapter or scene.
There should be a poignant phrase for someone to say in every scene, and if you're working towards it then you're more likely to get there sooner. Well, I think.

What about editing? How much should you edit in a day?
Maybe you should work on two books. Write one in the morning and edit in the arvo. Easy😃
