After trying this grip, I have no idea how my English letters turned to urdu letters.

I used to suffer a lot from hand cramps and hand fatigue after writting for short periods of time. I used to put my thumb over the body of the pen which also obscured my vision. Recently, i changed to the tripod grip(index and thumb on the sides of the pen) and instead of only relying on the movements of my wrist or fingers i try to use my arm, wrist and fingers at the same time. The muscles in your arm are more stronger than the ones in your finger therefore there is less fatigue. Try balancing the use of all 3. It may feel difficult at first but practice makes perfect. I also switched to a fountain pen which requires quantifiably less force applied when writting. This eliminated the hand pain and improved my handwritting. Practice a lot.

Well...the change in grip fixed everything. It'll take a little time to get used to, but it's more comfortable overall. Thanks for the tip!

I have that same grip she showed at the start, it's what I've been using my whole life and I can't change it.

Yeah, I have hypermobile fingers myself. Interesting idea. My solution was to just become ambidextrous (which I succeeded, now I can write equally well and comfortably with both hands).

Thanks for the tip. I've had severe wrist pain (I think it's called trigger wrist or wrist tendonitis?) since childhood and holding a pen/pencil even for 10 seconds has always been torture. However this grip reduces the pain enough for me to consider writing by hand again after all these years of avoiding this whenever possible.

I was looking for handwriting improvement advice when I found this, but thankfully I think it’s not my writing method that’s bad now, I don’t think people would understand how happy this has made me, genuinely, my entire life my pen grip has felt weird and awkward, this feels natural, it’s so strange realising I had the skill all along but my grip was just wrong. Thank you so much for this video, if I didn’t find this I’d probably be stuck feeling like a failure forever, you’ve really saved me.

WOW!!! So much more comfortable, and I'm not continually hyperextending my dip joint. So good for drawing, too.

I know you said without changing utensils, but for me and my hyper mobile artsy bud, using fountain pens and being able to use virtually no pressure helps write for a long time. As does changing your technique (if you’re using mostly fingers) so that you’re using the large muscles in your arm to do most of it

I’m really glad I found your video!! I have held my pen/pencil incorrectly from the very beginning of learning how to write. Teachers tried to make me use special grips and that just didn’t work. They eventually gave up trying. But, my hand and wrist do start to hurt after a just a short time. And I’ve got a weird callus on my ring finger that hurts. Have always been hyper mobile, but it wasn’t until more recently that I realized how much it affects how I move in the world. Never really associated it with my hand grip when writing, but it makes complete sense!! Want to practice your grip suggestion… and look for that pen you are using!!
