You forgot the boy who can somehow sing soprano that always gets the comedic lead

For us it was our director’s son. He was Angel in Rent, Jean Valjean in Les Mis, Emcee in Cabaret, and so many more. And frustratingly, he absolutely nailed every single role.

or that one soprano that the director just randomly loves and chooses for every and any possible performance

Our directors daughter got a lead role in the one musical I performed in but we were a small school and she was actually crazy fucking good (if I had been the director I would have given her the same role) with a lot of experience in singing, dancing, and stage performances. I was actually more concerned about one of the “token white boys” in our cast, because he had no singing experience at all and was supposed to sing a solo and a duet (and he was struggling during practices A LOT). But then this guy took the time to not only seek out advice & extra opportunities for practice but HE LEARNED HOW TO PLAY THE PIANO IN TWO MONTHS TO PLAY ALONG FOR HIS SOLO SONG. Anyways. This was a very rare instance but we were all so proud of him actually and he slayed on purpose performance nights.

Listen the same people be getting big roles but I can’t complain bc they are pretty talented in my school 😂

For me it's the principal's daughter always getting some sort of big role even though she CANNOT SING(she's a good dancer and a good actor, but she CAN'T SING and no one will call her out about it)

There was literally a huge problem at my school because for my senior musical the teacher only cast underclassman in all named roles and not a single upperclassman, which they were 10, got a single role mind you three of the upperclassman literally were going to college for performing arts and had roles in community theater so it’s not like they weren’t talented. She also refused to write a recommendation letter for the assistant Director, who had pretty much directed six of the musicals during her time in high school.

no except at my school it’s always the same girl who gets the leads and solos and everything, she’s definitely the favorite it’s so rigged 😭
edit: i’m not saying she isn’t good, she is good. but she’s not good for EVERY single female role. other people need a chance to shine. it might be different at other peoples schools, but at mine, it’s VERY obvious when there’s a favorite.

here’s the cast list!!
Lead- The favourite kid
Supporting lead-person who paid $$$
Love interest-Random guy who is into sports but decided to try out for fun
Villain-Random new kid
Ensemble-every good actor
That sums it up from my experience lol

Some directors will seem to do anything it takes to make it so that actual theater kids don't get leads

I’m just glad my directors actually know how to cast. Even tho I don’t get good roles a lot it’s fine cause then the show actually goes really well😭

For me It was the AD's best friend/directors favorite student and basically the AD's entire friend group. I was so mad i wasn't even considered even though I'm lowkey obsessed w the production

Being a male when there’s so many females comes in clutch. You always get a good role.

I remeber being 12 and told that my voice was perfect but I was too fat for the role. This was a small town kids theater club. The girl who got the role couldnt sing to save her life but her parents were rich and donated money. Fun times.

The same people always get good roles in every show. I was literally able to accurately predict the cast list for this year's show before it was released. What worries me most is that I seem to have become one of those people who always gets a good part, and I feel really bad about it because I know others are annoyed by it.
