This is the new Anytone rebaged, with a few slight changes. I have been investigating the idea of replacing my 878II plus with one of these or the Anytone version.

They had me breaking out the credit card, until the lack of GPS came up. I guess I’ll wait until they come out with the D-99+++* from Kenwood, maybe at that point I will be able to afford the D75 on the used market.

Looks very much like the Alinco MD5 i have. Its menus are near enough identical.

Thank you, interesting device. It is somewhat similar to Retevis RT3S and its clones. It would be interesting to know what is inside, I would not be surprised if it is the same as in RT3S. It would be great if the manufacturer opened the firmware source code. I am working on the OpenGD77 version, but without documentation on the DMR chip it is quite difficult. 73!

The Radioddity version of the programming software does not allow the selection of 5 kHz deviation (25 kHz BW) in FM. That is an issue for US users. The Anytone SW has a selection for both 12.5 kHz and 25 kHz

Are there any other handhelds with the that fantastic satellite pass prediction and automatic Doppler shift(!) correction?

So the APRS function is ... Broken, as in not complete? If Bob B. was still around I wonder what he would say about this feature set.

I've always found that "Radioddity" equipment is buggy. I'll go with the Anytone

Its a slightly remodelled Anytone 878, same firmware.

Does it support encryption? Been looking to replace some commercial radios with DMR radios with encryption for a while now.

Ham radios are always preferred because of the cost, easy programming, no commercial licenses, parts support and easy repair and maintenance.

It's uncanny how much that looks like Alinco. (or vice-versa)

The only reason I would consider buying this would be for the Satellite stuff. Ive tried DMR before but the programming confused me so I gave up.

$200 USD isn't a bad price at all in my opinion.

What's the point of APRS if you are setting a static location via the programming software? 🤨 basically your have a portable HT that you can take into the field, to the store ect and you transmitting out via APRS the only l9cation your NOT at? I don't get the point of that... If they wanted to put in APRS without GPS should of put in Bluetooth and let it connect to a phone and run APRS via Aprsdroid type software...

Speaking of NO GPS how are we predicting satellite location without GPS? Oh we have to download that from the computer in advance? I see 2 problems with that...

1. Your location to the satellite passing overhead are based on your current or location set when you are downloading the data.. That's all great if your gonna run out the door and hit a satellite from your backyard.. But if you download the data and then go on your merry way out to the field or camping ect. Don't count on it predicating where they are as its set to the location you left unless you have the foresite and know the exact long / lat of were your going to be this too is a useless feature.

B. How long is that download data good for? Id say probably not long so again without GPS to track your location and the sat I see this as useless unless you are doing it right out the door or bringing a internet linked computer with you everywhere to continuously downloading program this radio.

All in all (IMHO) the Radiology GD-168 seems like a Basic DMR / ANALOG HT ( which is great) with other half baked features ( which is not great) at a full baked price tag (also not great)

I think they would of made a AWESOME radio at this same price tag if they just added Bluetooth to connect to your phone and use the phones GPS to help with both APRS & satellites. This could also give availability to Bluetooth cordless Mic's they could sell separate... Wow now thinking about it you really missed the mark with sales too 🤦‍♂️

Is the spectrum analyzer showing analog or digital? My experience is that digital tends to be ok but analog is usually dirty. 😂😂
