How do veneers work?
A crown is better for structural stability because it goes all the way around the tooth. On the other hand, a veneer only covers the front side of the tooth and is more geared towards aesthetics.

Veneer teeth vs crowns
Both a crown and a veneer require that you shave down some of the natural tooth in order for the restoration to be placed.
For a crown to be placed, you need to shave down all the way around the tooth.
For a veneer to be placed, you only need to shave down the front side of the tooth.
