This is the official development announcement of the Canon R1. As a development announcement, Canon didn't share a ton of specs...actually none really beyond a new auto-focus processor. I was hoping to learn what image sensor it has, how many megapixels, stacked global or just stacked, how many still frames per second. But all we got was one photo and no real specs.

I'm invested in Sony but I'm still hyped to see this thing. I like the A9III but frankly I need a higher res that 24MP. So I'm eager for what an A1 mkII could look like. And I don't think Sony will slouch on that camera which must be coming soon because the A1 is getting older and older. Whatever Canon does with this I imagine Sony will match so I'm excited to see what a 2024 flagship camera looks like.

I think you’re spot on, Jared. Not just the pressure of ‘It’s a major sporting event year, where’s your damn flagship?’ But also the plethora of conflicting rumours and speculation, a lot of it probably unfounded or wildly optimistic, that’s been going on the last couple of years. It looks as though all that’s forced their hand. So we get a ‘development announcement’ full of promises but with no hard specs to back them up. That might have satisfied people a decade ago, or even five years ago, but in 2024? After all the expectation and the long wait? And, on top of that the prospect of waiting another two, three or more months to find out more? Or, as they are ‘aiming for a 2024 release’ even longer before most people can either see one or buy one?

We NEED to see & hear about this Camera NOW!!! Canon your leaving it abit late for people to use for the Olympics & get used to set up etc.

We knew it was coming and pretty much new it would have improved stuff. So I agree they really told us nothing other than it may be out within the next 6 months. I finally just picked up a new to me 1DXII. So add about 5-6 years onto the R1 release date for when or if I might pick one up, used. I'm someone who doesn't make their living shooting pics but rather makes just enough to put it all back into gear to be able to support some of our local soccer teams. The R1 will no doubt be well outside of my price justification for quite some time, but it sounds really cool. I have 3 kids starting college this Fall and 1 already in college so dang, I'll be spending enough that I could have bought 4 or 5 of these in each of the next 4 years. What we do for our kids.

Wow, EOS R1. The time flew by. I still use happily my 2012 60D, 2013 5Dm3 and film EOS 300. As a lightweight fighter got an M6. I think i'm gonna stick with these guys for a while longer.

I would think the reason why they haven’t opened up the specs yet is probably because they’re still determining how much additional compared to the R3. Pumped for you Jared I know they will send one out to you💪🏼

So… This is their PRO camera? I still have my Flagship EOS R 🤣 This is awesome though! 50mp, 4K 240, 8K 120, 60 FPS high speed shooting, 12800 base ISO, global shutter, flippy screen, it will have it all! 🔥
