It has a small rig casing fitted which may be obscuring a view of the top buttons, dials and hump

I'm using the R3 and R5c for video work. for me the R3 is the perfect body to work with, great battery life, the right weight that isn't too heavy and perfect for handheld. AMAZING evf, so much better than using a monitor in bright sunlight. if you put in the R5C video quality and give us the ibis on/off option-- plus open gate 3/2 4/3 recording-- would be amazing. internal ND would be a plus, but a matte box is fine for ND.

If it doesn't have cinema features, I hope they release a cinema version at the same time-- like lumix did with that black version.

Nice video. I'm a Nikon shooter and I appreciate your balanced approach to this comparison with your usual Canon gear. I'm pre-ordered a Z8 as a second body to my Z9, which I love. Keep up the great work.

I believe you may got it wrong here. It very well looks like a regular eos r3 with a smallrig cage on it.

The photographer filmed in the original chellko tweet has a 2nd camera on a strap over his right shoulder that can be seen for a brief second showing a bottom/back view with the LCD on. It has a wide base like the R3, but appears to have a strap point on the bottom like on the older 1D series. I'm sure other photographers at the event would have noticed the cameras!
SOLVED - It's a SmallRig cage for the R3!

The body shown has more the look of a C70 than an R body. Perhaps the operator was filming video, and the camera is a new addition or update to the Cine line.

As others have said looks like some sort of casing or cover difficult to tell perhaps like a generic test box for prototyping (looks too ugly or weird). I would have loved the R3 body for the R1 only downside for me was the 24mp. I have had 1d series for a long time but I prefer what they've done with the R3 body that little bit of size reduction and shape is nice. Perhaps the originally development of the R3 intended it to be the R1 but they changed the badge when the Sony A1 was released and Nikon Z9 was announced knowing it couldn't quite compete with both hence the long wait for the new R1 development they weren't prepared. The R3 is a beauty if I didn't need the extra pixels for wildlife but for sports/action it's flagship. It's come down in price I have been tempted to get one and learn to creep up closer to the birds.. 😀 good job the Z8 came up before I did anything in haste.

It looks like a case over the body.
What lens is that, it doesn't seem to be an L lens, the lens also looks masked by something.
I've wondered about the top bulge for a while, it was necessary for a DSLR for the mirror box assembly but is it really necessary at all for a mirrorless? Even on the R5 it is much smaller than the 7D II with a much smaller mirror, I'm pleased about that, as it used to catch on my cap peak and the R5 doesn't...
I'm wondering, though, based on my above comments, if this is even a working camera or just a mock-up, after all, Canon does seem to love to create a news frenzy with a gushing leak!

I suppose I feel neutral about it. I really like the R5 ergonomically. In general Canon cameras seem well-shaped. I like using the 5D3 and R7 too, but the R5 is goldilocks for me (with or without the grip).

We may not need the hump, but it's going to take some getting used to if it's gone. It's just not a very aesthetically pleasing look, but we would probably get used to it one day. In the meantime, the R5 if still a damn-near perfect camera.

Any further updates on the third party lens autofocus situation? Also how come you stopped using timestamps in your videos Simon? You mention the time tags visually at the beginning of each video, but it's also nice to be able to see them marked in the timeline as well.

It's a strange place to see the R1 prototype/test model, but I'll take it! I commented on one of your videos a couple of days ago, saying I hope we will get some R1 info soon and - there it is! I'm a Nikon shooter and not even a pro, but great Sony/Canon/Lumix cameras are just making things better for us, consumers. I hope we will get some more info in the next week or two, it would spice things up a bit. Also, what's going on with the Sony A9iii? I expect it to be a great camera as well. I'm thrilled about the Z8 and I hope it will push all the other manufacturers to make better cameras.
