This was my magazine of choice for my whole childhood, I was so upset when it went bust.

Shue and Chan were my favorite.

Thanks for this trip down memory lane.

I loved EGM in the 90s. I worked at a software store in the US in the early 90s and could keep the UK magazines that wouldn't sell (they were expensive). You are spot on with the differences between the two. I preferred the UK magazines because I got to learn about systems and games that I had never heard of. I think I still have a stack squirreled away someplace.

I am from the 80's and Atari 8-bit. Byte, Compute, Analog, and Antic. Last two are Atari Mags.

I had the converse situation, here in the USA. In the early 90s, I didn't have money for consoles and cartridges. So I just stuck with my Amiga.

EGM was frustrating because it was mostly content I could use. And here in the USA, Amiga coverage was already getting pretty thin.

But some magazine and book stores imported magazines. I really liked Amiga Format for its cover disks (which mostly worked fine on NTSC Amigas), the more bombastic style, and ... of course ... actually having Amiga content.

I've always found yank mags so boring and banal compared to our mighty mags like Your Sinclair and Crash.
