Kia Sorento SUV review - Carbuyer

The Kia Sorento is a large seven-seat SUV that features grippy four-wheel drive and comes with Kia's excellent seven-year/100,000-mile warranty. Rivals include the new Nissan X-Trail and Hyundai Santa Fe – both of which also have seven seats – although buyers may also consider the likes of the Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5 or even the Land Rover Discovery, which are only five-seaters, but still very spacious in their own right. The Honda, Nissan and Mazda are available with four-wheel drive, but some versions of those models are front-wheel drive only.

I bought a 2015 Sorento a few months back and I absolutely love it. We are just back in the West of Ireland from a trip to France and the car performed flawlessly. 2 adult, 4 kids and a full boot and roof box and the car never lacked in power. 200bhp and over 400nm of torque, perfectly adequate, but you are correct Matt in the saying about pulling away in too high a gear.

The only problem criticism i have Is some of the plastics feel a little cheap and the centre console around the gear shift and handbrake tend to creak a lot. Also the stereo on mine is rubbish.

But over all the car is really good and I would happily buy another in a few years.

Sometimes I don't get Matt. Nobody buys this car looking for a sporty type feeling. It's all about comfort and practicality in this car!

But the Kia won't go wrong like the Discovery and the 2.2 diesel still gives nearly 200 Yes it is more expensive but still is 10K cheaper than an equivalent lower end premium.

Great Review but no mention of full size spare wheel (under the car) and self levelling suspension? Things the discovery sport, or any car in the compact SUV bracket do not have. To my mind this car competes with the Discovery, XC90, Q7. it is not as good as any of them, but then it is around 15 grand cheaper.

Design-wise this is a really nice car! I've said this before but I'm saying it again: way better design on Kias than on Hyundais!
And about sportiness on an SUV...my feeling is that only journalists really care about it. I bet a normal buyer doesn't really care as long as the car drives ok and feels safe on the road (meaning is not like a boat, jumping all over the place).

It's very spacious.I think it is the best family car ever!
I wonder whether it could beat and be more spacious than the Audi q7 and theVolvo xc90. I have watched a video car of the year 2014.Bmw x5 vs porsche macan vs toyota kluger vs kia sorento.I can't believe that the kia won and beated the porsche and the BMW.I wonder why is it cheap.I thik it's the best.Thanks Mat.

Kia is whopping ass and improving with every iteration, while the Germans like Mercedes and Bmw are just slacking and getting shittier, and hoping their badges and past reputation alone will garner a sale.

damn wished it was the automatic version, wanted to hear opinion on that one because I've heard that it kind of downshifts into wrong gear when putting the pedal down to the floor.
