Can a piece of footage prove the existence of a monster?

The Bodette film is a piece of alleged lake monster footage shot by Peter Bodette and Dick Affolter near the mouth of New York's Ausable River, which feeds into Lake Champlain. People around Lake Champlain have been reporting and documenting sightings of a lake monster called "Champ" for hundreds of years. If there are completely new aquatic species in Lake Champlain, the Bodette film may prove crucial in preserving them. The film is not open to the public, and so, the question must be asked: why?

In 1968, i was 12, And while camping at lake Champlain state park coming up from the bridge I saw what I thought was a school of fish jumping out of the water, porpoise like. As it past by me I could tell it was like a Giant eel . By the time I climed the cliff up to the tent to tell my parent's, it had disappeared. It was in the middle of the water about 25' long moving around 5knots. The sun was behind me around 10:00am and it was dark in color but silver reflected by the sun. I didn't know anything about what I witnesses untill a tv special in the early 80's on strange phenomenon. Thank you for your time and best regards Ron Hood

I wont swim in any water if I can't see the bottom. No lakes for me. I get creeped out just thinking about it.

I grew up in Lake Champlain area and I've swam all over the lake! While swimming in Port Henry, New York as a kid I used to hear those clicking sounds underwater all the time and in Shelburne, Vt. I heard them as well! Years later I was listening to dolphins and whales communicating doing the clicking and those reminded me of the sounds I heard underwater! Also, I think there are underwater caves and routes that can go to the sea and ocean and possibly connected to lakes and bodies of water IN the Earth!

I cannot express how much i love this documentary. But at the same time how much it has inspired and brought others to look into this further. Your work is truly appreciated and i hope one day we all can finally see the footage and we can hear your opinion on it

I’ve been watching cryptid shows like monster quest and such since the early 2000’s. This is hands down one of my top favorite documentaries on cryptids. With my beliefs I know these animals were created by a higher power in the past and could still exist today in our waters. From Champ to Dogman keep doing what you’re doing brother.

FINALLY!
I have been waiting for some follow-up on the ABC footage I've also been waiting for these types of documentaries to come back rather than all the sensationalized crap that is out there.
Well done. Well done. Subscribed.

And I'm all with Chuck Pogan.

Thank you for adding captions for the last dialogue from that call. I hope that man is doing ok. I believe there is something we need to do about that lawyer.

If it is a Plesiosaur, doesn't mean it would be as large as they were in pre-historic times. Look at the ancestors of modern day Rhinos, Buffalos, Sharks, etc. After millions, or even hundreds of thousands of years, they may have evolved to become smaller.

Lake Champlain is 125 miles long, 5 miles wide at its widest part and 400 feet deep. So if you go looking for Champ and you dont see anything its not that surprising

This was very well done. It's deserving of the iconic "Science is looking for answers... on monsterquest" at the beginning.

The expedition on Lake Champlain that recorded some type of sonar being used by an animal, most likely in the lake itself, is very interesting (some skeptics say it may have originated outside of the lake in the sea to the North).
To my understanding, there are currently no known animals in the lake that use sonar.

this is one of the best documentaries about cryptozoology EVER!!! even as a child i watched and read everything i could get my hands on, especially about sea and lake monsters. in the last few months i have watched “release the bodettefilm” probably 7-8 times and i get really euphoric every time because i have the feeling that here at lake champlain they are on the verge of solving this mystery! I personally don't know anyone but myself, lol, who would wish for this discovery! But then what exactly happens if it really is an unknown species, be it giant turtles, ancient marine reptiles or slugs. Of course, direct protective measures for the survival of the species. But what would that look like? Especially for the tourism industry, because if such a creature were to be discovered, and I think it's quite possible that certain people have known what these creatures are for a long time, people would want to see them!
Likewise, after such a discovery, all the other famous lakes would be investigated in great detail. What would you do if a dinosaur really was there? It would probably turn everything on its head. Nevertheless, I wish i could see one of these creatures. personally, I´ll really like the giant turtle theory!
You guys did a really great work with this documentary. My greatest thanks to you guys.

Btw, Is the anonymous narrator at the end who has seen the whole Bodette movie Charles Pogan (42:59), who can be heard earlier in the documentary?

The big problem with the Plesiosaur theory is: They breathe air. A Plesiosaur would have to surface often just to breathe.

A giant aquatic snake would be terrifying.

Met this guy at a local bar I frequent and I got into talking about Bigfoot and he told me he and his wife at the time were on a little boat fishing in a larger pond in Oklahoma. He said they were sitting when what he thought was driftwood float up next to the boat. That was until it's eye opened. He said he freaked the F out (Uderstandably) and his wife was telling him to start the boat and go. It submerged and they took off. He showed me on google maps where it happened. I have no answer at all other than there were little bodies of water around the area and a nearby river.

Aw, HELL No. Cement ponds only, thank you.

I used to swim in lakes and a few times in the Gulf. But that's just because I had no clue about the things that were down there.

Nice documentary, but I wish something could be done about the many major issues with the sound.

I was at the beach years ago at the Port Kent ferry dock in New York. Maybe 2007. I saw little waves like something was swimming and this very very long creature was right passed the docs. I didn't have a cell to take a picture but whatever it was was super long and I swear I saw what looked like humps coming out of the water. When that one lady said she saw 3 or 4 humps and it was really long, I felt validated lol everyone Said I was crazy but I saw it for a good 2 or 3 minutes. After that, I don't go in the water any higher than my hips because it freaked me right out

If the lawyer wants money then start a Champ campaigning to make enough money for him to release it.

I grew up in Highgate Springs Vt. I spent every summer swimming in that lake. Never saw anything but sometimes you could hear clicking noises underwater.
