Plain language summaries (PLS) of scientific publications are concise, simplified explanations of the key findings, methods, and implications of a research study. They are a vital tool for bridging the gap between the scientific community and the general public by facilitating the dissemination of scientific knowledge, promoting transparency and improving overall health literacy. The objective of this webinar is to update participants on PLS, their importance, and how to create them effectively. We are joined by publication specialists Salgo Merin and Shweta Pitre from SIRO Clinpharm. And we answer questions from the audience.

It should be of interest to anyone who is working in and around MedComms, or who is wanting to join the business.

Love Peter's question at 37:40. Why produce a technical paper in the first place. 😆
My answer is that:
1/ Researchers are rarely professional writers, never mind plain language specialists. So the only way to get the paper/science out is to let the researchers tackle it in their own words.
2/ Companies, publishers and researchers may worry that if they make it simple, readers will think they're simple-minded. Or they'll think that if it's simple, it's obvious and so not worth discussing.
